I’m not exactly thrilled that AI platforms can mine the best content from our websites to power their own platforms while driving less traffic back to us, but if your content doesn’t appear in those AI results at all, your visibility will drop even more. Even though it seems unfair that AI tools pull valuable content from our websites and reduce the clicks we get, there’s also a real downside if your content isn’t represented in those AI responses, because your website's visibility will be greatly reduced. AI results are now at the top of nearly every Google search as well as on other search engines, and while they will credit your website for the content (if you're lucky), it also means that customers won't necessarily need to visit your website if they've gathered all the info they were looking for. AI and SEO now are looking to platforms where people post in-depth, conversational content with high engagement and where search engines can crawl public pages easily. For most sites right now, that means prioritizing Reddit, Quora, YouTube, and the major “entity” platforms like LinkedIn and Wikipedia-style profiles, with Facebook, X/Twitter, and others supporting brand visibility and link discovery. How AI uses social platforms AI search (Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT-style answers, Perplexity, Copilot, etc.) tends to surface sources that are: Publicly accessible and easily crawlable. Rich in real user questions, answers, and discussions. High-authority or frequently cited across the web. Because of this: Reddit and Quora show up very frequently in AI answers for “how/why/what should I do” style queries, since they contain long, niche discussions and real-world experiences. YouTube is a major source for tutorials, reviews, and how‑to content that AI can summarize or reference. LinkedIn, company sites, and other structured profile or knowledge pages help AI understand entities (brands, people, products), which improves how often you’re mentioned or cited. Works best when you participate genuinely, share useful breakdowns, and only occasionally reference your brand or content when it truly adds value. Quora (and similar Q&A) Strong for detailed, evergreen answers tied to specific questions. Optimize answers with clear structure, practical examples, and a small number of highly relevant links back to your site. YouTube AI often pulls from videos for step‑by‑step how‑tos and product research. Well‑titled videos, detailed descriptions, chapters, and links to your site increase the chance your content is cited and clicked. LinkedIn & professional profiles Helpful for B2B and expertise‑driven topics. Complete, keyword‑relevant profiles and regular posts/articles support entity understanding and can rank directly in search. Social for general SEO (classic search + AI) For overall SEO (organic rankings + AI overviews), think of social as an amplification and signals layer: Traffic and engagement signals Sharing new content on social platforms helps generate early clicks, time on page, and brand searches, all of which correlate with stronger organic performance over time. Brand and entity building Consistent naming, bios, and links across platforms help search engines and AI “merge” all mentions into one clear entity, which improves trust and visibility. Link and mention generation Helpful posts on social can lead to bloggers, journalists, and creators linking to your site, which is still fundamental for SEO. Practical priority list If you need a simplified roadmap: Minimum viable presence Solid website (technical SEO, schema, good content). Branded profiles on LinkedIn, YouTube, and at least one major social network (Facebook, Instagram, or X/Twitter) with consistent name, logo, and link. Here is how to very quickly convert an Indesign file by exporting as a PDF and using Adobe Acrobat's Convert Colors tool. Watch the video above or read the directions below: First, export your InDesign file as a PDF Use Adobe Acrobat to convert it to grayscale. Here's where to find it in Adobe Acrobat: Open the sidebar Tools > and click view more to find Use Print Production > Convert Colors > Convert Colors to Output Intent - And find the Grayscale profiles at the bottom of the list: Gray Gamma 1.8 / 2.2 Choose "Preserve Black" and "Promote Gray to CMYK Black" options if desired. As a book designer and avid reader, I have a gripe about "soft touch" matte lamination – whenever I read books with this type of finish on the cover, it feels like the cover is waxy or oily, and consequently it feels dirty to me. I was lended a practically brand new book from a gardening friend, above, and I took this book with me on an airplane, and the whole time I read it I felt like I was getting grime on my hands, in an already pretty grimy place (the airport and airplane). I feel like I have to wash my hands now every time I pick up the book. Perhaps I have a touch of OCD, but for me the soft touch covers spoil the enjoyment of reading the book. Especially if reading it in bed before going to sleep, I feel like I have to get up and wash off the waxy plasticness that gets on my hands from handling the cover. Additionally, the cover also shows every fingerprint so it just looks grimy. It's almost like it's sticky! Apparently the soft-touch plastic coating they are using on books can degrade and break down into microplastics, so it's no wonder my hands feel dirty after handling them! I'm not alone in this, here's a Reddit users's post about it: Several books in my collection have weird feeling dust covers or softback covers. It seems the intent was to feel velvety soft, but they feel almost tacky or sticky. Or slightly oily, which they appear in any spot that's touched. I really dislike these even when new. Now some that I've had for a while have started to "melt". They feel even more sticky, almost like that old style soft plastic that used to be used around cables (which melts into gluey pools over time). I encourage authors, printers and publishers to steer away from these "soft touch" book covers... Perhaps printers/book publishers use this grimy plastic cover tactic as a form of planned obsolescence – so people feel like the book is old and and dirty so they are more likely to get rid of the book rather than gift it to a friend or donate it to a thrift store or used bookshop. Whatever it is, I feel like I'm going to have to buy a new copy to return to my friend, as this one just looks well used even though I took good care of it.

As a Wix Website Designer , I wanted to share some information for my clients regarding Wix Pricing in 2025. Often Wix has sales for 50% off plans, so reach out to me and I can help you take advantage of their deals in order to save on your website expense budget. Here are Wix's current prices as of October 15, 2025: Like everything, Wix's website hosting prices just keep going up. Luckily, they do have ways to save on the cost. I advise my clients to take advantage of buying a few years in advance at a heavy discount, for example, their Core Plan which is currently $29/month is often 50% off, and if you buy 3 years in advance you can get it down to $11.75/month, which is pretty good for website hosting costs these days. Here is an example of their October 2025 pricing during their 50% sale: If you buy during their sales, you can also take advantage of the cost savings and get even better discounts for purchasing multiple years of hosting in advance. For example, the Core Plan can get down to $11.75/month if a 3 year plan is purchased. Note, this does require the 3 years paid up front, but it really saves a lot of money in the long run! Wix's Editor is the Best in the Business - it's a Million-dollar Editor! And, nobody has a better easy-to-use editor like Wix...yet! Their classic Wix Editor (not Wix Studio*) is truly is a million-dollar editor. I keep hoping more website hosting/builder companies would follow Wix’s lead with their WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor. The classic Wix editor is by far the easiest and most secure platform in the industry currently. As a Website Designer with over 20 years of experience in the business, I have built websites on many different platforms over the years including Dreamweaver, Flash, Joomla, Drupal, Squarespace, Shopify, and Wordpress. I still have clients on Squarepace, Shopify and Wordpress, which are decent platforms, bu they still don't have the easy to use visual editor that Wix has. Shopify is great for sophisticated ecommerce features, but it is more difficult and confining when designing within their rigid theme structures, and it's not super intuitive where to edit a page's template, so I mostly work with these clients to do their Shopify website design edits for them. I also have some clients on Wordpress, but it is very cumbersome and difficult for my clients to edit their pages easily, and it requires constant software and plugin updates, websites can get hacked if not updated regularly, plugins stop working… I could go on and on. So I’ve steered most clients away from using Wordpress unless they have an ongoing website budget for basic maintenance. *Wix Studio is a more sophisticated platform that requires a lot more experience and training to understand to use, it works for clients with larger budgets who want to pay a website designer to keep the site updated. It's not ideal for small businesses who want to do their own website edits, so if that is what is desired, the classic Wix editor is a much better fit. While the classic Wix Editor Wix offers easy-to-use website editing, it is still a challenge to get a website started. If you're not a designer, the editor can be difficult to understand all that you can do with the platform, and to get your website looking and working just right. Yes, Wix is super easy to use to edit websites, but, as with all software programs, there IS a learning curve to learning how to build a website properly on Wix, and it helps to spend some time learning how to work in Wix with tutorials or training, or many businesses decide to hire an expert Wix Designer to design and setup the website initially. We work with many clients where we design the website completely, working with the client to get feedback and suggestions to finalize the Wix Website Design. Once the website is fully designed, we then offer Wix Training for the client to show them how to use their website to make edits and keep it updated over time. It's amazing that Wix offers a completely free website (albeit, you have to use the Wix domain they provide, for example, my friend's Ocean Conservation Art website: mcphlori.wixsite.com/lorimcpherson ) but this is still totally free. You can access their amazing Wix Website Editor without paying a penny. This unlimited free trial is also nice as you can build out your entire website to see if you like it before paying for hosting and launching live to your domain. How to link pages to menu in Wix: Adding Page to Menu in two different places To add any page to your Wix menu more than once, just use the "Link" option instead of trying to add the page directly. Watch video above where I walk through these steps, or see screenshot below. Once you add the "Link" to the menu, then you can copy and paste the link to your specific page (I navigate to the page in a different window/tab to copy the URL to ensure it's working). Make sure to click "Done," and you can change the name of the menu item and move it to the location in the menu or as a submenu item as desired. If using a Link to add a page to the menu in more than one location, it IS IMPORTANT to change How Does it Open? from New Window to Current Window. Then, scroll down and expand the Advanced SEO Settings and uncheck the noopener and noreferrer checkboxes – you don't want these if linking to a page within your website, or even when linking to outside websites that you partner with. These basically block your search engine analytics from tracking the links, which isn't ideal in all situations, especially not when linking to an internal page. I'm not sure why Wix has these on by default, and why they are somewhat hidden for me as I have to scroll down to change the values for the noferrer and no opener settings. Happy Wixing! As an artist and web designer for many artists, I have a lot of artist friends and clients, and occasionally they are contacted online by fraudulent scammers who are trying to scam artists by offering to buy their work. I am sharing this post to warn any artists of these types of scams. For example, the contact form submission notification lower below sounds generic and suspiciously familiar, I’ve seen these types of messages before. This is likely an Art buying scam – which often involve a fake buyer who uses methods like overpayment tricks bad checks or stolen credit cards to defraud artists. Scammers may pressure artists into sending back an "overpayment" which is later revealed to be fraudulent or they might claim to be an art gallery that requires an upfront "listing fee". To stay safe artists should be wary. A big red flag is the large budget range of "$1,000 to $40,000" which is offered to make the offer sound legitimate and highly desirable. It's meant to put a creator at ease and override their suspicion. The request to pay by check is a key step in the classic "overpayment" scam. The scammer will send a fraudulent check for more than the agreed-upon amount and then ask for the difference to be wired back to them. The bank will eventually discover the check is fake, leaving you on the hook for the full amount plus any returned funds. Here is an example of this type of contact form submission scam: Name: Tyler Cowen Email: cowentyler67@gmail.com Phone: 2694548492 Subject: An Anniversary Surprise for My Wife Message: Hello, my name is Tyler Cowen and I am currently stationed at Naval Base Coronado, California. As our upcoming wedding anniversary approaches, I’ve been exploring artwork to find the perfect surprise gift for my wife. During my search, I came across your work and was truly captivated by the quality and detail. Your talent really stood out to me. (Red flag: this is all very generic, and could apply to any artist) With that in mind, I’m interested in purchasing one or more of your pieces as part of our anniversary celebration. If possible, could you kindly share images of available works that are ready for immediate (or near-immediate) sale? I would also appreciate it if you could provide details regarding their dimensions and pricing. My budget for this purchase is between $1,000 and $40,000. Additionally, I’d like to confirm whether you accept checks as means of payment.   (Red flag: a high budget range and asking if you accept checks are both signals this is a scam) I look forward to hearing from you and learning more about your available inventory. Warm regards, Tyler Cowen (likley a fake/scammer name) I would delete this contact – and not followup! This is a very generic and suspicious contact form submission and should be ignored and deleted. When it sounds too good to be true, always proceed with caution! Best wishes to all of you artists out there for REAL customers who truly want to purchase your work.

Yes, Wordpress websites can be moved to Wix – though it is a process, there is no direct import button that does all the magic. It's best to hire a Wix Web Designer for the transition, which will ensure all your pages are rebuilt into Wix, your blog posts are correctly imported and cleaned up, and – since you are moving the site, it's always nice to update your website with a fresh design in the process! Wix does have a Wordpress Blog Import, however, importing Wordpress Blog posts to Wix is not always perfect. A few issues I've encountered from importing Wordpress Blogs to Wix include: Missing Featured Images from original Wordpress blog post. HTML code inserted into the Excerpt (such as paragraph code and code in place of em or en-dashes. Missing Paragraph breaks (so paragraphs stack on top of eachother.) General Spacing issues - text without any space under images, for example. Importing of tables for some content, which are awkward and undesirable in Wix blog posts in my experience. URLs may need to be redirected using URL Redirects (301 redirects) if the original Wordpress blog was in a subfolder, as Wix doesn't have subfolder site structure. Note: Only blog posts from Wordpress get imported, not pages, which will have to be rebuilt manually. See more on this below. These import issues are all easily fixable, but it does take time to go through all your posts – especially if you have a lot of them, so just be aware there may be some hours of work involved. It is also important to note that migrating websites from Wordpress to Wix is not accomplished with just a click of a button. Pages have to be manually rebuilt, and migrating entire Wordpress websites to Wix is a process. It is necessary to take time and pay attention to details like SEO, page structure, and layout. While Wordpress blog posts can be imported, they often need adjustments after the import. Wordpress pages, on the other hand, are not able to be imported so they must be rebuilt and their design can be updated in the process. Wix has a Wordpress Blog Import so you can import blog posts from a Wordpress blog into the Wix blog. As a Wix Website Designer , this is a tool I often use when converting Wordpress websites with blogs to the Wix platform. Above I show the import process using my Good Environmental News blog as an example, which I've had for over 10 years – and it has hundreds of posts. I always wanted to bring it into Wix from Wordpress but never had the time to manually recreate all the posts. Well, now I was able to do that in a matter of minutes. Granted, if I want to retain it's SEO, I will need to setup 301 redirects for it as the URL structure is slightly different, this saves hours upon hours of work having to manually copy and paste and recreate each post. Can you migrate from Wordpress to Wix? Yes. You sure can migrate your website from Wordpress to Wix! You can migrate from Wordpress (or Wix) to any platform. But it's not as easy as just pressing a magic button. Wordpress to Wix Migration Wordpress websites can have their blog posts imported into the Wix blog, but pages will need to be brought over manually. That's not to say it's hard to do, it just takes time, and more time if you have hundreds of pages! But, if you were to switch from Wordpress to other platforms, you'd run into the same situation. There is no easy way to "migrate" a website over to a new platform without some time to design and pull over content and design it to look good on the new page. The positive side of this is that if you're migrating a website from any platform to a new platform, it is the perfect time to redesign or update the design of the website. So, while you may need to manually build pages, you can simply update their design in the process, copying and pasting content from the old site, uploading new and higher resolution images, and updating the content and overall look and feel of the website in the process of migrating. Wix does Import Wordpress Posts! A Wordpress to Wix migration is now possible, as Wix has a Wordpress Blog Import that allows you to import all your Wordpress blog posts into the new Wix blog. This is a game changer for Wordpress websites who have expansive blogs, as before you would have to manually recreate each post from a Wordpress blog into Wix – there was no way to import posts. But now there is with the Wordpress to Wix blog post migration tool. Remember, the Wordpress Blog Import to Wix is not the only thing you need to do. Here are some handy tools to create custom Google Maps for use in design and on websites. The first tool below allows you to stylize Google Maps to have more or less labels, landmarks, and streets. You can also colorize and export the Google maps styles for use on websites. Check out this great free tool: mapstyle.withgoogle.com Below is an example of a map I simplified for a Denver graphic design client for a parking map that we're working on. I took screenshots of the map with my retina-display and seamed it together in Photoshop for our use. Looking for topographic maps? Another cool map tool I discovered is here: gisweb.unr.edu/topomaps/ They even have lots of different styles that you can choose from to view the map in: Pretty cool. And another tool I just discovered is Google My Maps – where you can create  customized Google maps easily: www.google.com/maps/d You can customize the pin icons with your own, import lists, manually add pins, and change map style, create routes, then share a link to it with others (and even allow them to edit it). Google My Maps also offers iframe embedding code to put it on your own website. Note: these maps don't appear to have a way to remove labels of businesses or names of streets, so these aren't exactly "clean" maps but they are still a great tool if you want to have a lot of locations on a map that can be edited by others. As an experienced Wix Website Designer , I have found some great tools for quickly creating Mockups of website designs across multiple platforms. June 2025 Update: I just found an even better website mockup generator that actually places the mobile version in the mockups, which is even better than the mockup creator lower below. It works so fast, it's like magic! Way faster than creating one in Photoshop, even with a template! Only downside that it appears to distort the laptop view (squishes it horizontally a tad) but you can download the other versions without the laptop to get around the issue. I've asked the creator if they can fix that! :) This mockup generator above is even better than the ones listed below if you want accurate mobile mockups in addition to the desktop, laptop and tablets. Pretty sweet: WIX IS A GREAT WEBSITE MOCKUP CREATOR TOOL: One thing to note – if you're looking for a website mockup creator tool to mockup designs for clients, I love to use Wix for this purpose. Even if the final website won't be built in Wix, Wix is a great WYSIWG website creator that allows me to quickly mockup my designs and show clients with an actual working website that is navigatable and even mobile-friendly (unlike other platforms such as Figma, or the former InVision platform, Photoshop, Canva, etc). Your menus and buttons can work, you can show animation, background scrolling effects, and so much more. Plus, if the website is going to be built in Wix, it's already done! No extra work needed. I love it, saves my time and therefore my clients money. OTHER WEBSITE MOCKUP CREATOR TOOLS: This tool below does something similar, BUT it doesn't pull an accurate mobile view of the website... so I've had to swap that out using Photoshop. This isn't really about website or graphic design, but I wanted to share as this affected me and I couldn't work on the computer or really do much of anything as I was so dizzy, so I wanted to share this in case anyone else suffers from positional vertigo – there is an easy cure. I had a bout with Vertigo (dizziness) recently, and my husband had it before and he found this great series of moves from Dr. Carol Foster of University of Colorado. It was my left ear, and so I did the series of movements for my left ear three times, it helped immediately, though it did take a few hours before the feeling of dizziness completely went away! Thank goodness, it was hard to do anything as I kept feeling nauseous. If you ever wake up with dizziness, and it seems to get worse when you lay on one side over the other, it could just be your ear crystals are out of place! Try this wonderful easy method to treat it and cure the vertigo. Thanks for figuring this out for all of us, Dr. Foster!! A modern-day hero. Pass it on! As a Wix Designer , I often make tutorials for my clients to show them how to do things in Wix. People and Pollinators recently asked if I could help remove an old page that was outdated and replaced with a new page, so here is how this can be done while retaining the link and redirecting it to the new page. Video above shows how to set up a 301 URL Redirect in Wix when deleting a page. This is recommended to help retain SEO and redirect any bookmarks to an old deleted page by setting up a URL redirect to a relevant page. I don't recommend deleting pages unless absolutely necessary, especially once they are indexed by search engines like Google. If you do delete a page, make sure to setup a URL redirect to point to a new relevant page so you retain your search engine rankings/indexed pages and don't hurt your website's SEO. Beware! Avoid engaging with Spam Wix Form Submissions & Scam Emails Phishing is a fraudulent technique used to impersonate legitimate trusted sources in order to collect sensitive data such as passwords, account logins or details and credit card numbers. This is not isolated to just Wix websites, all website platforms and contact forms are subject to spammers and scammers. Wix website contact forms, like forms across all web platforms, are often used by spammers and phishers to reach out to website owners to try to sell them services by falsely stating they have bugs or errors in their website code. To report any suspicious emails, visit Wix's web page here: support.wix.com/en/article/identifying-and-reporting-phishing On this page it mentions that you can forward the email directly to reportphishing@wix.com and include the full technical email headers. See this fake spam submission below, this "Daniel Reeves" character submitted this exact same message using Wix website forms on multiple Wix websites. Note that these types of generic messages are just spam, myself and many other Wix Designers have seen this exact same message go out to other Wix contact forms. There are typically no serious errors or bugs in the Wix websites' code, this is just a phishing attempt to get people to reply or click on links, and worse, to send payments to them. I recommend to clients that they mark/report these types of emails as spam and delete. Do NOT reply to these messages or click on any of the links. Here's another example of another spam email to Wix website owners from the spammer identifying himself as "Daniel Reeves": Spam Wix form submission text: My name is Daniel, and I'm a Wix advisor. Your website looks good, but it contains serious errors in the source code that make it difficult to find on Google. Below, I'm sending you a report in which you'll find a list of the most important errors in the website's code. Once these are corrected, your website will be re-indexed on Google, and in a short time, it will achieve much higher positions in the search engine. LINK If you want your website to reach its full potential, review this report and adjust your website according to the recommendations included. The above report is completely free and non-binding. However, if you're interested in having our experts help you eliminate all errors, fully optimize your website, and submit it to Google for re-indexing, all you need to do is fill out a short application form. Sometimes a link will take you to a page that looks like Wix's login page, but it's really a fake site collecting your login details so they can scam you and get access to your website. I have the same advice for for bank emails, or any companies that send you an email. I always will go directly to the bank or other company website to login, I never use links provided in emails to do so as scammers are clever and while some emails may look real, they are often not and by clicking on the links and logging into these seemingly real but fake websites, this is how they gain access to your accounts. Report any phishy looking emails as spam and delete the emails. You can also search Google for the text from an suspect email to see if it's been used before, which is very common. Be safe out there!

As a graphic designer , I have been designing Google Slides Presentations (as well as Powerpoint presentations) for many years for clients. Lately I have had the fun opportunity to design my own presentations for the Herb Society of America as well as for CSU for my presentation on Year-Round Gardening in Colorado. The Print Production Expert I work with recently had a website department ask for a differently formatted SVG file of a new logo. Apparently, the developers were having a problem with the SVG logo files provided, due to the fact that when exported from Illustrator, the coding in the SVG file had viewbox coordinates of "x=0px, y=0px" and was not able to be responsive in their website CSS. So.... just in case I run into this down the road (I think it was for a Wordpress website), I wanted to share this info here to remember to Export SVGs with "Object IDs" set to Minimal, and with "Minify" and "Responsive" checked in the Illustrator SVG Options export. See details below: How to create an Adobe Illustrator Responsive SVG: From the Adobe Illustrator menu go to File > Export > Export As... Name the file and select ".svg" for the output file type. A popup will come up. There is a new native plant bed that we put in the front yard in 2022 – and have been adding to it over the past year. It is filled with native flowers including blooming cactuses, Rocky Mountain Penstemons, other Penstemons, Gramma grass, Four O'Clocks, Asters, Hardy Geraniums, Sand Cherries, Fringed Sage, and more. The Virginia Creeper covered arbor in the back provides a shady oasis in the summer with it's concrete tiled patio – perfect for benches or a table set. The serviceberry trees provide delicious fruit for you and the birds in June/July. The beautiful brick one-car garage has plenty of room for all your garden tools, and a car, plus there are two off-street parking spaces next to the garage. The apricots bloom in March every year, but rarely have much fruit due to the frosts and snowstorms that have followed. One of these years will be a banner year I'm sure! The apple tree produces every year – the greenish apples turn red if there is a good long summer season, and are absolutely delicious, even with only tinged with red. They are crisp, sweet, and very abundant on good years. Make apple cider, apple pies, applesauce, apple cider vinegar, you name it! The old apple tree is very generous. We'd love to sell our home to someone who appreciates the quality-built home and it's large landscape that has so much permaculture potential! Just in case you DON'T want to see the AI results when using search engines... here's a workaround: the editor of the Tedium newsletter, Ernie Smith, figured out a cheat code that shows you the no-AI Google search results. Just type your search into UDM14.com , that Smith created, named after the cheat code he found. This takes you straight to Google’s website-only search results that are hard to find otherwise. With some web browsers, you can change your settings to make the no-AI search results the standard every time. Smith has instructions , or you can check out the One Tiny Win section below. You can also use the search engine DuckDuckGo, a privacy-focused search engine, that provides a new power to filter out AI-generated material from image searches. Of course, AI search results are going to be the future of searching... but just in case you don't want to see them, this is a good workaround. For now. How to customize buttons in Wix as well as save the style for use across the website: As a Wix Designer , I often customize buttons on my clients' website designs. I wanted to share a couple ways to save your button designs, including a hidden way to apply your customized button design to other buttons. How to save a button style in Wix: Option 1: Copy Design To save a button design in Wix Classic Editor, right click on the button (control-click on Macs), then click Copy Design, and you can replace one of the themed buttons. Brilliant. *IMPORTANT NOTE: You must use a Theme Button to override the Themed Buttons that can be found in the + Add tool. Many Wix themes/templates have buttons already in the layouts, but these buttons are often older, basic buttons rather than the Themed buttons. So, if you edit one of these older versions of buttons (they have less design options, see video above), then you can replace other similar buttons with the "Copy Design" option, but it won't replace the themed buttons that are available in the Themed Buttons under the + tool. I like to replace my themed buttons to make it easy to add new buttons across the site, and change all of their designs at once if desired. Use Save to My Designs to save Wix buttons or other elements for future use anywhere desired. How to save a button style in Wix: Option 2: My Designs There is another way to  save a button style in Wix, which is to save it under "My Designs" by control-clicking or right-clicking on the button and choosing "Save to My Designs" in the popup menu – however, this won't change any existing buttons using themed buttons, it just saves the specific button for reuse. This is still helpful as you can add the button to any areas or pages using your "My Designs" option under the + add tools. Right-click the element(s) that you wish to save.   Click Save to My Designs.   (Optional) Enter a name for your design.   Click Save. *Note: I prefer using Themed Button s rather than saved designs, as they are more widely available for use across the site. For example, when using Hoverboxes the rollover state does not allow you to choose from your "My Designs" items - so customizing Themed Buttons is a better bet if you want to be able to add consistent custom-designed buttons to Hoverboxes without extra work. Also, the "My Designs" option is great for those with just one Wix website, but for a Wix Designer like myself, it adds the saved element to my library along with all my other client websites, so it tends to get buried – I wish there was a way we could choose to save "My Designs" to just the one website if desired, so the My Designs doesn't get bogged down with hundreds of elements from various websites! It is difficult to tell what is a basic button in Wix vs a Themed button, see my screenshots below to see the difference. Themed buttons have more design customization features including icons and layout. Above: This is what a Themed Button Customization menu looks like, vs a basic older button shown below. Above is a basic Wix button's customization window. This is not a "Themed Button" which has more customization features including icons. General info on Customizing your Wix Buttons: To customize any button so that you can apply it's design to other website buttons, click on the button, then click on the Paintbrush tool to edit the design. You can edit the regular and hover state of the button including background color & it's transparency, border, font choice, text color, and even add icons. Keep in mind that the Themed Buttons have more options than some of the basic buttons that you may find on a page template. Once you've created a new button style that you want to use on other pages and areas of the website. Ideally, it would be good to save your new button design to the theme. It used to be that if you used a button a few times, Wix would automatically add this button design to your theme buttons. The Wix editor no longer does this, but there is a workaround when you use the "Copy Design" option in the menu of any button that can be accessed by control-click on a Mac or right-click on PCs. As a Denver website designer, I specialize in lots of platforms including Wix, Weebly, Wordpress, Shopify, Drupal and others. While Weebly is not going away (for now), the support for the Weebly editor ends in July 2025 so things may start going south after that, and it's wise to get onto a currently supported platform to avoid problems with the website platform in the long-term. Will Weebly be discontinued? Weebly will not be discontinued, at least, not in the forseeable future. However, Weebly was acquired by Square in 2018, and Square plans to focus on e-commerce solutions and encourage Weebly users to move to it's Square Online platform. Though this is a possibility, unfortunately the Square platform currently does not have a sophisticated easy-to-use WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor like Wix's million-dollar website editor offers. Both Wix and Weebly have drag-and-drop builders, however, Wix's editor allows you to move any element anywhere, whereas Weebly's works in a row-by-row structure with limitations on customization, so it's much more constrictive, design-wise. Wix has a super sophisticated editor that far surpasses other platforms in ease-of-use and flexible page design. In Wix you can easily incorporate animation, videos, blogs, ecommerce, forms, third-party forms, and images anywhere on the page, and every page can have a unique design. Wix also has an amazing mobile editor so you can fully customize the mobile experience for optimal viewing by users. My clients love it!! Is Wix a good platform to move a Weebly website to? Yes, moving a Weebly website to Wix is a good solution. View some of the Best Wix Websites to see how beautiful, user-friendly and mobile-friendly Wix websites can be. While there is not an "instant" solution to transferring a Weebly website to Wix, it is possible to easily rebuild any Weebly website on the Wix platform. Blog posts can be indirectly imported (we have a process for this), and content can be manually moved over to recreate the website in Wix. During the process of transitioning to Wix is a great time to redesign your website to give it a fresh look while maintaining all the great content you may have built on Weebly over the years. Weebly's support is ending in July 2025, so while Weebly websites will not just disappear, support for them will, so eventually websites should be moved off the platform to a newer platform that is currently supported, such as Wix or Wordpress. We can move and transfer your website from Weebly to Wix without it going offline, so the process can be seamless. We can build out the entire website on Wix and test it fully before launching the website, so you can feel comfortable and excited for the change. We can also help transfer domains from Weebly to Wix if needed, and migrate blog posts over to the Wix platform. Again, while there is no magic button that will convert it all over, it is all possible, and your Weebly website can be rebuilt into the amazing Wix platform in a short time. What precisely is web accessibility? While it's hard to pinpoint every single aspect of what the definition of web accessibility is – the general idea is to create websites that people with disabilities can use. What exactly does it mean to create websites that people with disabilities can use? Basically, it's to make your website and all of it's content, including images, to be usable for everyone – regardless if they’re deaf, blind, paralyzed, or have any other disability. People have five senses, and it's important to create content that is usable for four of these five senses. It's good to think about these four senses when it comes to accessible websites: Touch, Sight, Hearing and Speech (taste is our fifth sense, which is hard to translate through the web... while the power of perception may be our sixth!) If you have a disability, your sight, hearing, touch or speech may be affected, so to use the web, you may need tools and technology to help you use and understand the content on websites.. ADA compliant websites should work well with the following accessibility tools that include: Screen readers: used by individuals who are blind or low-vision. They help these individuals by reading the content of their computer screen. Text readers : helps people with various learning disabilities that can affect their reading. Text is read through a synthesized voice, and the text is highlighted as the content is read. Braille readers : There are devices that convert the content of a computer screen and websites to braille, which allows people to read raised rounded pins on a flat surface. Screen magnification software: For those with eyesight disabilities, magnification software can help users enlarge text on websites for better legibility. Reduced motion preference: We could all use this! Some browsers and software can be used to minimize any non-essential motion on their computer or device. This sure would be helpful in recipe websites that are bombarded with floating and flashing video ads! Alternative input devices: A mouse or keyboard doesn't always work for every person, so alternative input devices help them surf the web. Some of these the tools they use for alternative input include: Speech input software: People who have difficulty typing can use speech input software to speak their queries and use certain words to trigger a mouse or keyboard action. Head pointers: Head pointers can be used by individuals with limited hand or arm control to interact with a physical keyboard or computer/tablet or a smartphone with a touchscreen. Motion or eye-tracking software: There is software (even AI software now such as tobii.com or eyeware.tech/track that track eye movement!) Tobii Browse, for example, is a custom-built app for browsing the web that you can use with just your eyes in a familiar way, even without previous eye tracking experience. This type of software is designed for people who cannot use their hands to browse the internet due to conditions such as ALS/MND, cerebral palsy, Rett syndrome, spinal cord injury or traumatic brain injury. With the software, people can scroll, surf and click in an intuitive way using their eye movement. Switch entry devices: These are usually used with an on-screen keyboard, people can use joysticks, button click switches, or even Sip and Puff Switches that allow them to interact with websites using simple movements or even mouth operation to navigate. How to Make a Website Accessible: So, how do you make an ADA compliant website? The good thing is, making a website accessible has many of the same techniques as SEO (search engine optimization), so many websites that are fully optimized for SEO are actually better for accessibility out of the gate. In a way, you could think of Search Engines as disabled robot "people" that can't really understand everything and can't really SEE what images are (although with AI they're certainly getting better and better at that) – but they definitely can read the alt text that is added behind the images by us humans. When we build websites that are SEO optimized, all of the images have alt text coded into them so that the search engines (along with people with disabilities) can still understand what is in the image. The best way to help make your website accessible to anyone with disabilities is to make sure your website is optimized for everyone (including search engines) to easily access and/or read your content. Here are specific ways to make your website ADA compliant: Include Structure on your Pages: Use descriptive meta page titles and H1 header Tags for every page that reflects the content on the page. Use headings – H1 (heading 1) tags are just for the page titles, whereas H2 tags help identify the secondary content. Heading3 (H3) nestles under H2, and so fort. Basically, you should categorize your content to help differentiate the different sections. Use Numbered or Bulleted Lists: Numbered lists () are best for listing steps in a process, whereas Bulleted lists () are best for lists of links or other information (this bullet item is part of a bulleted list) Use Descriptive Link Text: Rather than say "click here," use links such as " Wix SEO Tips " that describe the destination, topic or action that the viewer will see or initiate when they click on the button or link. Make sure there is enough contrast: If text is smaller such as less than around 24px (not bold) or 18px (bold), the contrast ratio should be 4.5:1. Larger text has less contrast needs, for example, text as large or bigger than around 24px (not bold) or 18px (bold) should have a contrast ratio of 3:1. Icons should have a contrast ratio of at least 3.1. Not sure what this means? Use this contrast finder tool to see if your colors are high enough contrast for text to be legible (note you will need to have your Hex colors sampled to determine this). To be safe, smaller paragraph text is usually best with black text on a white background for optimal legibility. Avoid slideshows and sliders: While they are appealing, slideshows and sliders are not very effective for conveying info, and can be overlooked or found annoying by many users. Use them only sparingly, and only for displaying images and not your most important information. Make sure any call outs or important info is listed outside of a slideshow or slider. Not everyone will wait to watch all your slides, so it is important to have the content available in the menu or content of the page in addition to the slideshow. Be informative ! Use descriptive structured text, post detailed photos with good alt text and captions, create quick video explanations with transcripts so people can watch or read your video or both — be generous and inform all of your viewers, listeners and braille readers! The more info you can provide, the more accessible your website will be. Write well. Make sure to write structured content and include images that are easy to read. Think about what you learned about writing reports in school! Make sure that your website copy can be easily read by anyone – shoot for 6th to 8th grade reading levels. EXPLAIN EVERYTHING! A great free tool is the free Hemingway Editor which helps you edit your copy by highlighting lengthy, complex sentences and common errors and helps you avoid meandering, convoluted logic. Include Alt Text for images: Since many websites today are very image heavy, it is important for every image to be optimized to be read by people with disabilities as well as search engines. Describe every image in detail in captions or in the paragraph above or below it - and also make sure that the alt text also describes the image, so that anyone, even someone who is blind, to be able to understand what the image is showing. It is best for ADA compliance to add alt text for all the non-decorative images on your site. Develop topics for every paragraph: Divide longer sentences into two. Remove redundant or unnecessary words that do not add anything to a sentence. Use bulleted or numbered lists to make it easier for people to read rather than super long paragraphs with a series of words using commas or dashes. Be descriptive : Elaborate and teach about whatever you are writing about. Don't be secretive or elusive. Provide all the information your viewer may be looking for. The internet, after all is a hive mind and remember that all flourishing is mutual. Use the web to help, teach, improve, and share knowledge . Skip abbreviations, jargon, slang, and acronyms (for example: ADA – Americans with Disabilities Act), etc. Explain and elaborate everything. If you do use an acronym, spell it out the first time you use it on the page. Provide definitions of anything you mention (such as SEO - which means Search Engine Optimization.) Then, explain even further. Explain it like you are teaching a child. Don't make people feel left out or feel uneducated simply because they don't know what an abbreviation or acronym means! More general ADA website compliance guidance: Slideshows:  If you use them, make sure that the controls are prominently displayed so a user can speed up or slow down the slideshow to their needs - allow them to pause, play, or navigate to each slide. And, be sure to use alt text, captions and other text to explain each slide. Additionally it is best to include important content, especially that from any slides other than the first slide, on your page or menu. Many people will not wait or scroll through a slideshow so make sure the important content can be seen outside of the slideshow element on your website. Don't add flashing elements! I'm really not sure how CNN, New York Times, recipe websites, and local newspapers get away with their flashing ad-ridden websites for accessibility. Our local newspaper, The Denver Post, is practically illegible with ads or subscriber blockers that completely disable anyone who tries to read their articles without a paid subscription. I even subscribed to their paid subscription website for a year to try to get around it, only to be annoyed by having to login every time I wanted to read an article, and then still being bothered by flashing and obtrusive ads when I tried to read an article! And every recipe site is so cluttered with flashing ads, that even myself, a non-disabled person, has a hard time reading them. By the way, flashing ads or elements can induce seizures in some visitors due to photosensitivity. So avoid adding these obtrusive ads or flashing videos or graphics to your websites! Don't auto-play videos or audio! Audio and video should not play automatically on any page, there should be controls to play, pause or stop audio at anytime.Any background videos should NOT play sound. Use ADA compliance tools on your website: Website add-ons like UserWay can be used to help achieve ADA compliance on a website – these provide AI-powered accessibility solutions that aim to help websites conform to the standards set by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) by integrating an accessibility widget on websites that can be customized for different disability needs. These tools are simple to install and allow the user to choose what types of customization they need to use the website. While some city governments (like in Denver) are saying these are not acceptable for full compliance, I find that they are extremely helpful and a good quick solution for adding tools to make your website more accessible for anyone who is disabled. Provide an Accessibility Page  to explain what you have done to make your website accessible, and any ways to help users use your website. Provide your contact info for your users to reach out with any questions via email or phone, and provide any tools or tips for the user to be able to use your website more easily. Link to this page in your main menu and/or footer so it is easy to find. Make it easy for people to contact you: Make your website more ADA compliant is by simply adding an easy-to-find dedicated contact page (link to a page called "Accessibility" in the main menu and footer) and be sure it includes clear and accessible contact information including a simple contact form and a phone number. The contact page should of course have high color contrast (ideally large 14-18px black text, depending on the font type, on a white background), keyboard navigation ability, and alternative text for any images on the page. It is hard to believe that Facebook, X, Google or the other huge companies could ever be considered ADA compliant when it is near impossible to find ANY contact information for any support. Provide text transcripts for spoken content: If you have a video or audio clip, make sure to have a text transcript for those who are deaf or hard of hearing. Closed captions are crucial for video content! Provide audio descriptions about any video or audio content sot hat people know what is happening in your video or sound clip. Most website platforms can be optimized for accessibility including Wix, Wordpress, Shopify, Squarespace and other platforms. These days I design most of my client websites using the Wix platform, which is super easy for clients to edit, and is also easy to make the content accessible. Wix accessibility features include the ability to add alt text behind all images, structure the website content, add title tags and description tags, embed videos and then add transcripts below them so that all users can read or listen to the content, and so much more. Additional Wix Accessibility Features include: Full Keyboard Functionality From small buttons to comprehensive online stores, Wix products are operable with a keyboard. Automatic DOM Order The DOM is automatically arranged so visitors who use keyboards and screen readers can navigate your site (from left to right). Site Language Definition Your site is rendered with the correct language so screen readers can understand your content. Correct Semantics Components you add to Wix websites have the correct semantics built in so people with disabilities can better understand your content. Smart Focus Ring Smart focus rings automatically appear when a keyboard is being used and feature dual colors so keyboard users better navigate your site. Aria Attributes Built-in aria attributes provide enriched accessible user experience. Plus, you can add custom attributes to apps and components you build yourself. Heading Tags Heading tags help users who use screen readers understand how your site is organized in order to present the content. Alt Text Easily add descriptions of images known as alt text so that visually impaired users better understand the context of the photos on your website. Skip to Content  Skip to Content allows keyboard users to navigate directly to the main content of the page. This way they can easily get to the content they need. ADA WEBSITE COMPLIANCE TOOLS: In Colorado, I attended a training from the state that reviewed what was needed to be done to make sure businesses and their websites are ADA compliant. One of the main takeaways is that they recommended getting a website audit and provide a report to the city for compliance. Here are the two tools they mentioned: Automated website reviews: siteimprove.com Blind Institute of Technology  Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR): After any flags are taken care of in the automated review, a Manual Review can be done. The Blind Institute of Technology  Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR) is a manual website audit which can then be provided to the city for compliance: hblindinstituteoftechnology.org/accessibility-audits/  There is cost of course associated with these audits, but these may be necessary to get state approval for compliance for businesses and non-profits who are partnering with the state for projects or programs. Public Notice from Colorado Department of Revenue: cdor.colorado.gov/public-notice-to-all-cdor-vendors-and-contractors Here also is the Colorado Vendor Checklist for ADA compliance: oit.colorado.gov/a-guide-to-accessible-web-services/procurement-toolkit/vendor-accessibility-checklist And they also stressed the importance of having a Accessibility page that is easy-to-find on your website (in main header or footer for example), that includes clear and accessible contact information including a simple contact form and a phone number. The contact page itself of course should be fully compliant, and have high   color contrast (ideally large 14-18px black text, depending on the font type, on a white background), keyboard navigation ability, and alternative text for any images on the page. There are a few ways you can upload and use a PDF on Wix websites. Here's how to add PDFs to a Wix website: LINK: Link to the PDF via a button or text link – to do this you can upload PDF to Wix media library and choose "Document" to link text or a button to the PDF. Embed PDF in Viewer App: Embed PDFs using a PDF app viewer like the free Wix PDF Viewer app which allows users to scroll through your PDF in an embedded PDF viewer window. CONVERT PDF TO IMAGES TO USE DIRECTLY ON SITE: If you have just a one-page PDF or want to display the images right on the page, often the BEST option is to convert the PDF to a webpage friendly image. You can convert the PDF to JPG image(s) so you can place them anywhere to display on the webpage. This works well if you have a PDF that is just one page or you want the user to be able to see it right on the page. If you have multiple pages, you can convert all of the pages into JPGs and put them on a page or into a slideshow gallery if desired so the user can view them directly on the page. Note: You cannot use a PDF on a webpage like an image, there are PDF viewers but if you want to just display what is in the PDF on the page, the best way is to convert it to a JPG image file, as those can be used on any website, blog or social media. You can do this with most photo/image editors such as Adobe Photoshop. If your Emerson/White-Rodgers P210 thermostat is turning on too frequently, don't fret – it could simply be that you have the Fast Heating Cycle Rate turned on in the thermostat's configuration settings! Sure, frequent furnace cycling could be caused by faulty sensor readings, incorrect temperature settings, drafts in the room, a malfunctioning HVAC system, low battery power (if applicable), wiring issues or a problem with the thermostat itself (which are the answers I found when googling it) but thankfully it was none of those things for us – it was simply the default thermostat settings! Read how we fixed our problem below... We installed a new Emerson / White-Rodgers Thermostat P210 to replace an old 20-year old Lux programmable thermostat, as the old Lux thermostat's button connections weren't responding very well anymore so it was difficult to change the time or day programs – the old thermostat worked, but we just couldn't easily make time adjustments easily. So we finally decided to replace it and found a new Emerson / White-Rodgers Thermostat P210 at our local True Value. We installed it, and it worked right away. For the first couple days, however, we noticed that the furnace was turning on and off very frequently, every 5-10 minutes, and only ran for about 5-10 minutes. While it was very cold outside, this was different than when we experienced with the old Lux Thermostat – which would only kick on the furnace every 20-45+ minutes, depending on how cold it was outside and the tmeperature we had set. While the new White-Rodgers/Emerson thermostat was keeping the house consistently warm, we were worried it may wear out our furnace faster and use a lot more gas when cycling it on and off so frequently – it seemed to be coming on up to 6-8 times an hour! We thought that the new Emerson / White-Rodgers Thermostat P210 was defective and was triggering our furnace to turn on too frequently, HOWEVER, after reading the whole manual, we found two default settings that we adjusted that fixed our problem of having the furnace coming on too often. How to program your Emerson/White-Rodgers P210 thermostat to come on less frequently: On page 21 of the Emerson/White-Rodgers P210 thermostat directions manual , there are two settings in the Configuration Menu: # 1: Select FA or SL (Fast or Slow) Heating Cycle Rate – ours was default set at FA (fast), so we changed it to SL (slow) and now the furnace runs way less frequently and stays on longer when it is running. The thermostat now turns on our furnace every 20-30+ minutes instead of every 5-10 minutes as it did in the FA (fast) setting, depending on how cold it is outside and what temperature we had it set on. This is because it has a higher cycle temperature variance allowance, 1.5˚ F instead of just 1˚F on the FA (fast) setting. This means that it won't kick on when it's still at the temperature, where on the FA setting it was kicking on even if we had it set at 68˚ F and the current temperature was at 68˚F. I suppose the FA setting could be said is more "consistent" but the fact that it turns the furnace on and off a lot more frequently to hold it at a steady temperature most certainly causes a lot of extra wear and tear on your furnace and likely consumes more gas. They say that the FA (fast) setting is more commonly used for gas furnaces, whereas the SL (slow) setting was more for hot water/steam systems, however, the SL (slow) setting is better for our gas furnace. You can try both and see what you think . I think having our furnace come on less often is better. The temperature still stays consistent without having to strain the furnace, though it cools off an extra half degree before kicking it on. That's how I like it. # 2: Turn OFF Energy Management Recovery – This was also set "ON" as the default, and it meant that the system would try to heat up the temperature prior to our programmed times to bring up the temperature before the set time. I am not sure why you would want this, if you want the heat to come on 10 minutes before you get up, then you can just program it this way. This setting makes it come on even earlier than you programmed it, which I think should have been set to "OFF" as the default. Anyway, we turned this off, too – at first we couldn't figure out why the furnace was coming on before our programmed time to increase the temperature, also making us think it was defective, when in fact, it was just this "Energy Management Recovery" setting that was set "ON" as the default. Now that it's off, the heat kicks on at the exact time we program it to. Here's the Emerson/White-Rodgers P210 Install Manual PDF: Adjusting these settings fixed the problem of the Emerson/White-Rodgers P210 thermostat turning our furnace on too frequently. I wanted to share this here as I couldn't find ANY info on this online, and we were thinking it was just defective until we read these configuration setting details in the manual and realized it was setup to run more frequently by default. While this isn't website design related, it is important since I run my website design business from my home office which benefits from an efficiently running furnace. Plus, I wanted to share this here to help any other people who may be experiencing the same issue, since I didn't find much about these settings upon first search. This also leads me to my last word of advice: READ THE WHOLE MANUAL! 😂 My husband is always good about this, whereas I, am not so much. He did read it all and found the above solutions to our short-cycling furnace/thermostat issue in the setting configurations. Looking for the manual? Here you go: Stay warm out there!

We are designing their new website on Wix to replace their old Weebly website, since Weebly was purchased by Square and they are discontinuing all Weebly sites in July 2025. Update September 2023: View this post for more up-to-date info on managing & adding storage space to Wix » I have a link to the storage manager so you can figure out what files are taking up all your space! ... Original post from April 2024: Wix started to enforce their storage limit last year, and now some clients have run out of room. Unfortunately, there isn't a way to easily figure out what images are being used on a Wix website, so it's hard to just go through your media library and delete unused images. (If you delete an image that is used on the website, it will appear as a missing image on any pages it is on, so be cautious if deleting images from your Media Library!) Plus, you also can't replace used images with compressed or smaller versions. I'm hoping that Wix will improve their Media Library options so we can more easily optimize our library for space, see my wish list below. But for now, if you need more space, an option is to add a Wix Storage Plan. How do I get around Wix storage limit? You can delete images and videos out of your library IF they are not used on your website. If you're not sure if an image or video is used on your site, you should be cautious as if you delete them they will appear as missing images or videos on your website. A workaround to this is to add a Wix Storage plan, they have a plan with 200GB for $5/month which is likely enough for most websites, but they also have more storage space in their upper tier storage plans such as 500GB and 1TB. Now that the storage restrictions are in place, my clients and I are running into issues with figuring out what images or videos are being used by clients' Wix websites, and sorting them by size so I can determine which images to remove or replace to make room when editing websites or duplicating and redesigning sites. Here are my suggestions: FILE SIZE SORTING / VIEW Can you add file size sorting abilities, and show the file size next to each file to the List View in the media library? This will help us to better streamline client image libraries to keep storage size down. Being able to view all the file sizes and sorting by file size should be standard feature. USED VS. UNUSED IMAGES It would also be hugely helpful to be able to see what images are used vs. unused. Or, at least a warning if you try to delete a used image? REPLACE IMAGES / OPTIMIZE IMAGE ABILITY Additionally, the ability to replace images if desired (or somehow optimize them) without having to delete and upload the new version and then manually insert new images on pages would be ideal (basically, the ability to replace an image or video file with a smaller version in the media library so it retains the same filename and changes on any page it is used on...) See video below to see what I mean: I hope that Wix listens to our feedback and adds this functionality in the future. For now, you can buy a storage plan if more space is needed. But ideally, it would be nice to clean up our Media ibraries so that we can eliminate unused images and videos or reduce and replace used files to clear up space! Fingers crossed!

Wix Storage As a Wix Designer , I have many clients that have run into an issue with their Wix Storage limit. Did you know there is a way to manage your Wix website storage space and files? It's not easy to find (Wix says it's under your Settings area of the dashboard, but it is not there on my dashboard, so see my links lower below). Once you find the Manage Storage page, you can easily sort by file size and delete files to free up space in the Manage Storage dashboard area of Wix*. You can also add Storage Plans to your existing Wix Premium Hosting Plan if you run out of space. For example, in Wix's Light Premium Plan, it only includes 2GB of storage space, and many people exceed that but don't need to upgrade to the much more expensive Core Plan as they only need more space, not ecommerce or online payments. Wix Storage full? Here's how to check Wix Storage: Above is Wix's Manage Storage area in the dashboard where you can view your files by filesize to identify the largest space-hogs and remove them if unused.* This is hard to impossible to find in the Dashboard settings, so below is the link to get to your Wix Storage Manager: Storage Manager (view by filesize, etc): https://manage.wix.com/my-account/site-selector/?siteType=HtmlWeb&actionUrl=https://www.wix.com/dashboard/%7B%7BmetaSiteId%7D%7D/storage-manager?&title=Select%20a%20site&buttonText=Go+to+Manage+Storage For some reason, the Wix Storage is not available in the Settings area, but it does exist if you use the link above (it will give you an option to select the Wix website you want to manage storage.) *IMPORTANT NOTE: if you delete an image or document that is being used by your site, it WILL result in a broken link or broken image on the webpage, so be sure to check to be sure the image or file is NOT being used before permanently deleting ! If they are being used by your site, go to the page or blog post where they are used and replace the image or PDF link with a new one BEFORE deleting the larger file so you won't have broken links or images on your site. Not sure if your images are being used and don't want to delete files willy-nilly? Then you can also upgrade your Wix Storage Plan, see below: Wix Storage Pricing (as of Sept 2024): Wix Storage Limit If you ran out of space in your existing Wix Premium Plan, you CAN add just storage to your plan without having to upgrade to a much more expensive hosting plan. Currently, you have to manually replace files on every page which can be cumbersome or nearly impossible if an image or PDF is on multiple pages are you're not sure where they all are. Ability to view if a file is being used or not – if you delete an image or file and it is being used somewhere on the Wix website, it will become a broken link or broken image. NOT good! How to export contacts and emails from your Wix website and forms: 1. Login to  Wix.com  then select your Premium website that you want to export from, roll over it to click on  Select Site 2. Now you should be in the dashboard, on lower left hand side menu click on  Customers & Leads  and under that select  Contacts. 3A. General Contacts Export: Click on Import/Export  on right hand side of the top of the  Contacts  list. 3B. Wix Form Submissions Export:   Click on  Forms & Submissions  to view form submissions, click on the three dots ••• and select  View Submissions  then you can select all of the list by clicking on the top checkbox, and then click on Export that appears above the list. As a Wix Website Designer , clients often request popups on their Wix websites.   Here are some updated Lightbox tips prompted by a question about how to edit the color overlay of a Wix popup / Lightbox window: To remove a Wix popup lightbox background all together, change the overlay and lightbox backgrounds to be 0% transparency in their settings. See video above to see what I mean. I always advise to use popups sparingly, as Google does penalize sites now for having overly obtrusive popups (like newsletter signups) that block the user from seeing the content. Sometimes, though, popups do come in handy for events or other temporary promotions. Here are my quick tips on how to edit Lightboxes in Wix in the video above. Also, not shown in the video – make sure to go into your Mobile View editor and edit the lightbox there as well to automatically show up, I believe by default the mobile lightboxes are NOT automatically set to popup so you need to turn that on if desired. I like to use popups instead that respond to a button, so you can put a small button/blurb and link to a popup for more info, this way it's a little less obtrusive and also can load faster. Popups tend to have a delay that varies depending on the loading time of your page and what settings you setup for the delay. Happy Wixing!

This letter below is excerpted from another website design company who sent me and several of my customers this email: “Your website should be your best salesperson, but Wix often limits SEO performance, slows down load speeds, and restricts design flexibility. When I receive these types of emails with misleading information, I just delete them and go on my way. I am not into dishonesty to get a client, but a lot of people are. I get these kinds of emails somewhat often and so do my clients, and I wanted to just post this here for referencing – these generic emails are designed to make someone doubt the website platform they are on. Wix, in this case, is not a bad platform for SEO. Nor is Wordpress, Shopify or other platforms . When you use them to build websites correctly, most current website platforms can excel at SEO. It's not really about the platform so much is that is about creating valuable content that is what you want to be found for. So is Wix good for SEO? Yes. Even the people at Google agree that Wix is fine for SEO . It's not about the platform, it's about how you build and optimize your website, and how you use it going forward. Keep your websites updated with fresh content. You want to optimize all your pages and posts to have good page/post titles, descriptions, unique images with alt text, and structured content that goes into detail on any topics or services you want search engines and people to discover. Create and use unique images, use real photos of your products, people or services. Create useful charts or engaging shareable infographics . Optimize your images to have Alt Text, this helps not only with SEO, but also with accessibility. Write real copy – don't use straight AI generated text. If you really want to, you could use AI-written text as a starting point but make sure to rewrite it to make it yours. I like to write from the heart, from a human perspective. You are your best writer about your business as you know your business! If you're not into writing long paragraphs, use short sentences, headlines, bullet points, and answer questions like you would with a customer. I generally avoid using AI as you don't want to have plagiarized or duplicate conent on your website to do well with SEO – and AI sources it's content from the all over the web so you never know what's original. To help with your website's online presence, answer common customer questions, provide instructions, tips, useful content that is likely to be shared or bookmarked. Whatever you do, don't let your website get stale, Google drops websites in the search rankings if they are not updated often. One reason that Wix can actually be better than Wordpress is because it's so easy to use. With Wix, you don't have to spend precious time updating software or plugins, that's all take care of so that you can focus entirely on adding good, new content over time. And, it's easy to add new pages and blog posts in Wix! The Wix editor is WYSIWYG, meanting: what you see is what you get – so you can click on text boxes to edit or resize them directly, or drop in images, move elements around, and design each and every page as you see fit. No battling a "backend" editor that you have to keep checking the frontend live version to see if it is looking as expected. Of course, if you're not a designer, hiring an expert Wix Designer is a great way to get a well-built and Search Engine Optimized website built. Good Wix designers know how to optimize pages and content for SEO as they build out the site. Then, you can simply get some Wix training (I train all my clients) so that you can keep adding new pages, updating the menu as needed, adding blog posts, and editing the website over time. It doesn't get "broken" by outdated plugins or software, and in Wix you even have a handy "Site History" option to go back to previously saved versions if you ever DO mess anything up. It's fool-proof! Unlike Wordpress, which can be a great platform if you spend time (or hire a developer) to stay on top of the software updates and you know how to use the somewhat confusing backend to make page or menu edits. Don't make the mistake that many new customers come to me with – letting their Wordpress website get stagnant because they're afraid they're going to "break it" – or worse, letting the software or plugins get out of date, exposing your website to hackers – resulting in hacked or even blocked websites. Many clients have come to me with corrupted hacked Wordpress sites over the years, I usually recommend starting fresh and rebuilding the website from the ground up if the site has been compromised, as once they've been hacked, they seemed to get hacked again if every bit of code wasn't cleaned or replaced. Wix is a secure platform, and doesn't have all the back doors for spammers, scammers and phishers to get into the code like open source platforms such as Wordpress. I'm not saying that Wix websites can't get hacked, but so far I've not had any problems with any of my hundreds of clients with Wix websites for the past 10 years. Because it is not open source, hopefully it will never be an issue. Wix does all the updates on their platform, so you can just use it to work on your website content. Wondering how to undo skewed shapes in Illustrator? If you're creating rectangles, for example, and the tool keeps creating skewed rectangles or squares, it's simply because your Perspective Grid is turned on. How to turn off Perspective Grid Illustrator: To turn it off, hide the grid – simply go to the top menu to: View > Perspective Grid > Hide Grid As a Graphic Designer , I was working on designing a wine label for a client, I had accidentally turned on this Perspective Grid (show Grid using a keyboard shortcut (Shift Command I) which triggered the perspective grid to be in place. Then, all my shapes that I used with the Grid showing were skewed. Once I changed it to "Hide Grid" I was able to make normal shapes once again. See the screenshot image below, or watch the video lower below to see what I mean. Easy fix. If you create any shapes with the Perspective Grid set to "show" and then you hide the Perspective Grid, it will NOT change any objects you created while it was turned on. But it will allow you to once again make regular, unskewed rectangles. Keyboard shortcuts are nice to use, but not when you accidentally turn something on by mistake! Sometimes it's hard to figure out where and how to turn it off, like in the case of the Perspective grid. I knew about the Perspective Grid and have used it a little in the past, but I didn't realize that by unknowingly using keyboard shortcut to Show the Grid, this causes all new shapes that you create to be applied to the grid. But that's what it was! Note: This was in Adobe Illusrator 2023, yes, I know I need to upgrade to the latest version, but I dislike having to relearn where my favorite tools are in the new versions. Seems like they're always moving things around or renaming things or the latest release is buggy, so I always wait awhile. Years if I can. Ha! Wix Header Disappeared? Here's how to fix it: As a Wix Designer , I keep running into an issue if I want to use a unique/different strip “background” video or image on each page that goes behind the header – the header sometimes gets overlapped by the page content's strip. See the video below on what I mean, and how to fix the header disappearing in Wix: 1. Select your Header: Control click on a Mac (or right-click on PC) with your mouse on the header area and then select the header under Overlapping Items. 2. Once you have the Header selected, Bring Header Forward: Use these keyboard key commands to arrange the header to the front, on a full keyboard with arrow keys, you can do this by holding down the Command key on Mac or Control key on PC then clicking on your upward arrow until the header is arranged to the top layer and you can see it. This will bring it forward to the top of the page, so that no page elements can overlap it. See the video above for more details to see how this is done. Remember Wix websites have different header scroll settings, depending on the design, you may want the header to scroll with website, or you may want it to freeze at the top of the page as a user scrolls, or perhaps disappear after scrolling down for a bit. Wix has all these settings to choose from under the settings (gear icon) when you click on the header. If you want to have a different background image or video that shows up behind the main menu and logo header area, it's good to use the "scroll with website" option otherwise it looks strange if it remains on the page as a user scrolls as the menu/logo will overlap the content and will make it illegible or messy looking. So this is a good solution to bring the header to front, but still let it scroll with the site as the user goes downward on the page. Is your mobile header disappearing or getting overlapped on Wix? Here's the fix in the video below. If your Wix header has disappeared or is getting overlapped by an element on the page, you just need to bring the header back to the front or top layer. Here's how: Select the Header so it's highlited in orange, and then use the Command key on Mac or Control key on PC and use your  upward arrow until the header is arranged to the top layer and you can see it. Here is how to create an Engraving Effect with Photoshop! As a Graphic Designer and Website Designer , I often have designs that would work well with "engraved" graphics. I mean, the type of engraving effect that looks like art on the dollar bill for example. My talented sister, who is a super talented Graphic Designer and artist , found this amazing Engraving Effect using Photshop Actions and shared it with me – it's great for turning photos or other colored art into engravings! I had some trouble figuring it out based on the instructions on the Actions download page, so I created the above video to help me remember how to use it. Here are the basic steps: First, Download the Actions folder in a Zipped file: *This Action set comes from a cool UK designer who created the action set, find it here: blog.spoongraphics.co.uk/freebies/free-engraved-illustration-effect-action-for-photoshop I wanted to also to have it available at my Google Drive link above in case this page ever goes away on SpoonGraphics. 1. Load the Engraving Patterns file into your Photoshop Presets folder: Applications > Photoshop Folder > Presets > Patterns folder - Drag the "Engraved Effect Patterns (Load First).pat" into the Patterns folder. 2. Then, open Photoshop, and open the image desired to "engrave." Note: it has to be a flattened one layer Photoshop file to work. Select your Paint Bucket Fill Tool which is hidden under the Gradient tool in the Photoshop toolbar. Once you have the Paint Bucket Tool selected, in the top click on the dropdown with "Foreground" selected and choose "Pattern". 3. Still, with the Paint Bucket Fill Tool selected, now load the Pattern into the Pattern dropdown at the top. See video on how to do this. 4. Now you can Load the Actions in your Action Window, see video to see how to do this, then you can Play one of the three actions in the Engraving action set, then hit Return or approve each action "step" until you get to the final results (it takes a lot of clicking on return button to get there, so be patient).
