- Wix ADA Compliance
Wix has a lot of built in features that help Wix websites be ADA Compliant. But it's not all automated, it is important to optimize your website to be accessible. What does ADA stand for? The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) protects people with disabilities from discrimination. An ADA compliant website is a website that is accessible to most users with disabilities. Read some of my top tips for helping make your Wix website ADA compliant below: Wix accessibility has a lot of built-in features that include the ability to add alt text behind all images, structure the website content, add title tags and description tags, embed videos and then add transcripts below them so that all users can read or listen to the content, and so much more. Because Wix websites are easy to edit, it's a great platform for creating accessible webpages. Here are some of the Wix's ADA Compliance / Accessibility Features: Full Keyboard Functionality From small buttons to comprehensive online stores, Wix products are operable with a keyboard. Automatic DOM Order The DOM is automatically arranged so visitors who use keyboards and screen readers can navigate your site (from left to right). Site Language Definition Your site is rendered with the correct language so screen readers can understand your content. Correct Semantics Components you add to Wix websites have the correct semantics built in so people with disabilities can better understand your content. Smart Focus Ring Smart focus rings automatically appear when a keyboard is being used and feature dual colors so keyboard users better navigate your site. Aria Attributes Built-in aria attributes provide enriched accessible user experience. Plus, you can add custom attributes to apps and components you build yourself. Heading Tags Heading tags help users who use screen readers understand how your site is organized in order to present the content. Alt Text Easily add descriptions of images known as alt text so that visually impaired users better understand the context of the photos on your website. Skip to Content Skip to Content allows keyboard users to navigate directly to the main content of the page. This way they can easily get to the content they need. Here are my top tips to quickly get your Wix website to be more accessible: Adding an Accessibility Statement page to your website, and link to it from your main menu and/or footer menu. Make sure to include contact information so that people can reach out to you if they have any trouble reading your website. Make sure your text is large enough to read and there is good contrast. Use Structured content such as header tags (H1, H2. H3, etc) to structure your content for easy reading. Write well – explain everything in detail. Add Alt Text to all your images : make sure to describe what the image is! Don't just stuff this tag with keywords. Don't auto-play videos or audio! Make sure to include video or audio controls so the user can choose to play, stop or pause content. Add text with the video or audio that includes a transcript of any spoken content so that people can read it, too, should they choose. Use Descriptive Links that tell the user where they are going to take them. Instead of "Click Here" for example, link to " Is my Website ADA Compliant? " Add an Accessibility Widget such as UserWay - this is a great widget that allows users to choose what they'd like to change on your Wix website to make it more accessible to them. Widgets like this allow for enlarging text, increasing contrast, hiding images, use dyslexic-friendly fonts, etc. Here's an example of how UserWay works: So in conclusion, make sure your content is easy to read for everyone! There are lots of things you can do to make your website more friendly for any visitor. - Interactive Wix Websites
As a Wix Designer, I specialize in interactive Wix websites that help engage your viewers. Check out the video below that shows some simple animations and interactive rollovers that I've designed for some of my clients: This pollinator study page below (also shown in the above video) was designed for a pollinator non-profit ( People and Pollinators Action Network ) that has interactive Wix features to teach people about some of the pollinators in Colorado: The next video below demonstrates simple Wix interactive features that use a rollover and buttons linking to lightboxes to create an interactive medical graphic for a doctor. This was created with the classic Wix Editor (not Wix Studio): Note: There is no "rollovers" for mobile users on websites since there is no cursor or mouse, a mobile user can only click and scroll. However, these types of animations and popup texts can be arranged to show up underneath graphics on phones so people can still see and read all of the content. - How to add Youtube Shorts to Wix
Wix doesn't natively support YouTube Shorts (hopefully it will soon, help speed it up and vote for this feature here ). But until then, here's the simplest workaround: Get the video ID rom the sharing link: https://youtube.com/shorts/ xxxxxxxxxx Copy just the "xxxxxxx" (the video ID) Add "xxxxxxx" after this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v= Here's an example of the final link to use to embed the video on Wix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxxxxxx It does show it in the horizontal format, but this is a very simple way to add a YouTube shorts video to a Wix website, blog post or the Wix Video player. Here's an example from one of my client's video shorts from YouTube: YouTube's Shorts are somewhat new, YouTube automatically makes any video under 3 minutes a "short." Happy Wixing! - Wix SEO 2025
Happy 2025! I just recently came across this article from the Search Engine Journal that talks about Wix vs. Wordpress: Which is Better for SEO? To summarize the article, as I've been writing about for years, they more or less say that Wix can be just as good for SEO as Wordpress is. The article references Google's John Mueller who said: “What I recommend to small businesses is: never self-host, avoid plugins, buy your domain name, use a simple & reliable platform, use 2-factor authentication, have 2+ people internally who can update your site’s content, get local SEO help.” - John Mueller, Google John Mueller of Google also recently said this about Wix SEO: “Wix is fine for SEO. A few years back it was pretty bad in terms of SEO, but they’ve made fantastic progress, and are now a fine platform for businesses. The reputation from back then lingers on, but don’t be swayed by it. What they’ve done in recent years is really good stuff, including making it trivial to have a really fast site (as you see in the Lighthouse scores — admittedly, speed is only a tiny part of SEO). If Wix works for them, and they don’t need more, there’s no reason to switch.” Here's another quote from Mueller from awhile back: WIX websites work fine in search. There are a lot of different setups for new websites. I wouldn't focus too much on a single provider, but rather think about the bigger picture: which will make it easiest for you to maintain your site (adding / changing content)? If you're getting help from others for your site, is there one that they have experience in, which might make it easier / cheaper? Which one offers the features that you think you'll need in the mid-term? There are probably a few options that could work for you, so maybe it makes sense to just try some of them out and see which one works best for you -- websites are websites for Google :). So in a nutshell, it's not about the platform, it's about how you use it. Make sure your website is built by a professional and that you or they utilize the main SEO features that the platform has to offer. Many Wix Designers are experts at setting websites up and optimizing them for SEO, so work with one to get the best possible results. Wix SEO in 2025 is perfect for most business websites. While in the past, many developers and SEO agencies would say that Wordpress was better than Wix at SEO, this is an old myth. Well, perhaps it wasn't a myth a long time ago when Wix was first providing HTML based DIY websites and it didn't have great SEO features, but for the past decade, Wix has had added all of the SEO tools and features needed to allow for a Wix website to perform just as well as a Wordpress website for SEO. And, since Wix is a much easier platform to manage, it can actually be BETTER for SEO as it's ease-of-use encourages businesses to keep their website updated. And keeping your website fresh and updated for content and keyword terms you want to be found for is what SEO is all about. Read more about Wix SEO » In addition to being easy to edit, and performing well with SEO if optimized, Wix websites can also look beautiful, be responsive, and work well across all devices including mobile phones. View some of the Best Wix Websites » ...But don't just take my word for it, read more about Wix vs. Wordpress in this new 2025 article below: Read full article here: searchenginejournal.com/wix-vs To summarize, Wix is really a great platform to have for SEO in 2025. While Wix sells their platform as a DIY editor, most businesses like to hire a Wix Designer to help design and setup the website. When you work with an expert Wix Designer , you'll get a fully optimized website that is designed to perform well on SEO. When I design a website for a client, I provide Wix Website editing training so that they can take the ball and run with it. Of course, I also work with some clients on an ongoing basis to keep their website updated or to design new pages or add new functionality such as ecommerce, blogs, custom forms, galleries, videos, and social media feeds or third party widgets. - Wix Designer Tip: Changing color of button on password protected page
While you can't change the text or formatting of the Password login page for any page you set as password-protected in the Wix backend, you CAN edit the colors of the buttons and text indirectly using the Theme Color Editor. It took me a bit to figure out how to fix the button style on the Password Protected page which was showing white text on a white background so the button was illegible which of course is bad for the user experience! So here's the fix! I found that in my template, the button color on the password protected page was being determined by the middle Color Shade in the "Customize Color Theme" window. Note: I changed the Base Colors a few times and published with no change, but then on the third try it worked! I Not sure why it didn't take the first couple times (I cleared cache and reloaded pages) but it did on the third try. I guess third time's the charm! Make sure to apply the color change, and then publish the changes and then reload the page (ideally in an incognito window) so you can see the change take effect. Also to note: my theme was using the middle Shade under "Base Colors" to colorize the password protected page's button, but I am not 100% certain that applies to all themes, so you may need to play around with your theme colors to see what affects what. ... - Is Wordpress better than Wix for SEO?
Wix vs Wordpress for SEO I recently had this question from a potential new client about whether Is Wordpress better than Wix for SEO: Hello, I have been advised by multiple vendors that I should switch my Wix site to WordPress. I am wondering if you can offer an opinion on that. I am interested in SEO services if Wix is a viable website platform, or I may scrap the existing website and rebuild on WordPress. Thank you! ANSWER: I believe that Wix can do just as well as Wordpress for SEO. Here are several blog posts I written over time on why Wix is just as good as Wordpress for SEO: Does Google prefer Wix or WordPress? Wix vs. Wordpress Wix and SEO Wix SEO Is Wix Good for SEO? SEO is all about optimizing your site and putting up a lot of fresh well-written optimized content over time. Google and other search engines don’t really care what platform it is on as long as the content is good and new content is added regularly, and the pages are optimized for the terms to search for. That said, depending on what you want your website to be found for, it takes a lot of ongoing good content generation and optimization on a weekly/daily/monthly basis and can take months to years to compete with highly searched terms so that your website can rise to the first page of the search results, no matter what platform you are on. In conclusion, Is Wix good for SEO? Yes. Don't worry about your platform, focus on writing and generating good content with unique images with the search terms you want to be found for. Wix is just as good at SEO as any other platform, including Wordpress and Squarespace. The key is GOOD OPTIMIZED CONTENT that is added often. Don't copy text from other websites, write your own – be authentic, detailed, and knowledgeable about your content. Answer commonly asked questions, explain your services in detail, talk about your location if it matters, tell stories, post real photos and videos that nobody else has... basically be the expert in what you want to be found for. And keep it fresh! - Fun with AI
I just tried out a new AI generator that I discovered, and had some fun with it. These are the best ones yet I've seen from a website (and they were free to create, you can get a free account with 50 tokens to create 50 AI images using their "Text to Image" AI tool. Pretty wild, some of these are somewhat creepy and odd, but they are interesting to see what the computer generates based on your search! "Creature eating peppers in the garden" "Hot pepper creature in the garden" - wow this one is creepy. "Green chile monster" "Giant peppers towering over city" "Pepper creature in the garden" "Bumblebee with peppers" "Giant green chile creature in New Mexico" - also quite creepy "Bumblebee pollinatoring pepper blossoms" - I guess it doesn't know what a pepper blossom looks like so it made one up. "Bird eating seeds from coneflower" "Ant in the pepper garden" "Bumblebee in vegetable garden" "Breathing fire after eating hot pepper" "Creature eating peppers in the greenhouse" - what is going on with this pepper he's "eating"? "Creature eating chips and salsa" – um, where's the salsa? "Chilehead eating hot peppers" "Giant green chile creature" - love this tubby pepper creature! "Dragon protecting peppers in the garden" - cool pepper guardian "Dragon protecting vegetable garden" "Greenhouse dragon" "Greenhouse full of peppers" "House made of peppers in a forest" - this would be a bizarre sight! "Worm living under vegetable garden" - ewww this is disturbing. Here's another one: "Earthworm living under vegetable garden" and one more... "Earthworm house underground underneath a vegetable garden" - pretty weird, AI, pretty weird. "Spicy Pickle creature in garden" - Another favorite! haha! Sorry, I couldn't help but search for lots of "creatures" in vegetable gardens... I couldn't get enough of these silly and slightly disturbing characters it created! Here are a few more with humans and places instead of "creatures": "Watercolor painting of a red headed woman vegetable gardener" "Watercolor painting of a red headed woman vegetable gardener" "Watercolor painting of a vegetable gardener" "Greenhouse" "Farmer planting peppers" - looks like he's actually planting a whole pepper? "Greenhouse and vegetable garden painted in watercolor" - this one is pretty neat. "Lady planting peppers" - not sure what she's planting here... and what is going on with her fingers? As a Graphic Designer , Illustrator , Photographer, and Website Designer , I'm interested in how AI will help us create in the future. I've tried several AI tools such as AdobeStock's Generator, Shutterstock's AI image builder, and Wix's AI website builder. This Imagine.art AI tool outshines them all so far, if you're looking for fantasy look and feel. You can find this tool and try it out for yourself here: https://www.imagine.art/dashboard/tool/from-text Here is another new AI tool that my friend just shared with me, recraft.ai – I just tried it out and it seems to have potential, too. Currently you get 50 "credits" a day on their free plan, but you do have to login. Below is an example of Adobe Stock's "Generate" tool search for "garden creature eating peppers" – not as fantasy looking, these look a little more real like a photograph rather than art. But not as fun, I'd say! It will be interesting to see how AI changes the graphic design and website design field over time. And here is a AdobeStock "Generate" tool with same search with "Vector look" applied. Not so great. A few more from Imagine.art to finish off this post .... "Giant pickle in Denver" – He's an angry pickle .... so I searched for a "Happy pickle": "Giant happy pickle in Denver" - pretty goofy "Pickle web designer" – very strange... I guess the "Web designer" part is the web looking strings in the jar? 😂 So here's the last one with a "creature": "Creature guarding jar of pickles" Happy AI training out there, folks! - Klaviyo Wix Integration - Embed Klaviyo Forms on Wix
Are you having trouble geting Klaviyo forms embedded on Wix? Are you installing the Klaviyo form div code provided in an iframe, and it is not showing up on your Wix page? If your Klaviyo embed form is not showing up on Wix, it's because you need more complete code. Embedding Klaviyo forms on Wix Websites: As a Wix Designer, I have found that Klaviyo's Embed code doesn't work on Wix websites. Klaviyo only provides a tiny snippet of code, which doesn't embed anything when inserted in a Wix HTML iframe, as I expected. But don't worry, you CAN embed a Klaviyo form in an iframe on a Wix webpage, you just need the whole script code to do it, find it below... Klaviyo does have a separate Wix integration option, but I think this only works with Klaviyo popup forms, which aren't always what is desired if you just want to embed their form on a page on Wix. Personally, I find popups annoying and anti-user-experience. So I like to embed subscribe/contact forms, and link to them from smaller subtler and less obtrusive buttons on the page for users to get to the forms rather than have them pop up in their faces and block the website. I think we could all use with a little less popups these days! ;) So, if you would rather just embed your Klaviyo forms on a page on your Wix website, here is the easy way how: HOW TO EMBED A KLAVIYO FORM ON A WIX WEBPAGE: What we NEED from Klaviyo is the FULL script that goes along with the embed, but for some reason they don't provide that, so I've placed it here for future use for all of you Wix users - copy and paste this code snippet below, and then change out the pink div code and API key text below with the code and key provided by Klaviyo: A couple notes: The first line with the form tag is provided on the page in Klaviyo after you "Publish" a form. To find your Klaviyo API key, go to Settings (by clicking on the client name in the lower left corner) then click on Settings > API Keys in the left menus. See screenshot below: Klavivyo Wix App: Wix also has a Klaviyo App that you can install on the site which allows for Mailing List Subscriptions and management, plus Wix Store real-time integration, syncing Abandoned Checkout, Ordered Product, Placed, Refunded, and Canceled Orders with catalog, variant, and tag properties so you can use this data across your messages and revenue reporting. wix.com/app-market/web-solution/klaviyo

- Adobe Acrobat Scroll Settings
As a Graphic Designer , I use Adobe Acrobat often to view client PDFs, and lately I had been having a problem with it's scrolling, it would always just scroll down through the pages where you would see half of the first page and half of the second page... I just wanted to scroll just page-by-page so I can see the whole page in the window and not parts of the other pages. It's a simple setting to get this setup as desired in the Adobe Acrobat Scroll Settings under the top menu's View dropdown : Under View in Acrobat's top menu, select Page Display to see expanded menu and then Uncheck "Enable Scrolling" which doesn't actually prevent you from scrolling, it just doesn't scroll the pages so you see only part of pages. Choose Single-Page view if not already checked on Voila! Now you can view PDF pages one page at a time. Much better.
- How do I add an OpenTable widget to Wix?
Open Table Widget Fix for Wix: I installed an Open Table widget script for a restaurant client on their new Wix website, but it was showing up blank in the iframe HTML box on the live site and in the editor. I couldn't figure out why until I Googled "Open Table widget on Wix" and I found the Open Table instructions on how to insert it on Wix. The trick is to add tags before and after the Script code they provide. Otherwise it won't display anything. Go figure! Easy fix but took me a minute to figure this out as it was not in the reservation widget page in the Open Table backend. So here it is for ya'll! Instructions from Open Table: Log in to Wix and navigate to the website editor. Select the Add Elements . Select Embed HTML . Use the What do you need to add? Menu and select Code . Paste the reservation widget code into the box. Note : Make sure your code is enclosed within tags. Example: WIDGET CODE Use the Widget Type setting in OpenTable for Restaurants to experiment with different-sized widgets. Publish your updates. Below is a screenshot that shows the corrected code with the tags added around the Open Table provided script/code that fixed the missing widget and made it magically appear! - Wix - How do I link an iframe to the main window in HTML?
I have a client who is using a Tripleseat embedded form in an iFrame on Wix, and they wanted us to insert some additional tracking code to track the form submissions. See the code below. The problem was that this embedded iframe code was opening up the thank you redirect page URL inside the iFrame instead of the main mother window. This was fixed by changing the target of the redirect to .top. We changed: window.location to window. top .location , so the .top addition opens the redirect URL into the mother page/window instead of just inside the iframe. Original tracking / redirect code: Fixed code script so that the iframe loads into the mother window/page instead of just inside the iframe:

As a Wix Designer , I get a lot of questions about Wix, and I like to share answers to them in this blog. I just had someone ask me: I saw your wix video on how to apply titles on Wix Pro Gallery. I'm having a hard time finding where to adjust the title and text size once the window is clicked, on the new window, where can I find these settings? Here is where you can adjust the size and style of your fonts used for the rollovers and expand mode for Wix Pro Galleries: Note: There are two areas to change your Wix Pro Gallery text styles, one for the rollover, and a different Settings area for the Expand mode of the gallery. Watch the video above for a detailed explanation on where to find these settings. The expand mode font settings are in a different area than the rollover text settings. - Favicon not showing in Google Search
Question from client: My favicon shows up in browser tab but not in search results... even after resizing/formating, clearing cache and page being crawled.... hope you can help? Thanks. Answer: Whether you have just added a Favicon, or if you have updated it, Google's search results will not show the change immediately. So this is ikely just that Google might not have had a chance to crawl or index it yet. It takes Google time to update the Favicon in it’s search index, and it can take days, weeks or sometimes over a month for it to re-index and notice the new favicon or other website content. Since you have Google Search Console setup, and Google Analytics, this will also help speed the update along, but it can still take several days to weeks. Updating content on your homepage may also prompt Google to re-index the site more quickly. After updates, I also recommend that you try searching for your website on Google (using the name of your business or some other terms to find your site in the results and then click on it) and that can help Google notice the new Favicon or content and re-index the site. You can also pin your website on Pinterest, or share it on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook or elsewhere to get Google to possibly notice the update faster. Use Facebook's debugger to re-scrape the site to get the Favicon updated there. Best bet? Wait a few days and check again, Google WILL update the Favicon, it can just take some time. In Wix, here's how you update your Favicon: To change the favicon on a Wix site, you can do the following: Go to Settings > Website Settings in the site's dashboard Scroll down to Favicon Click Add or Update Image to select a new Favicon image file Click Save at top right on Website Settings Page

- What happened to Wix Phone Support?
As a Wix Website Designer, I have had a few new clients call me lately because they haven't been able to reach Wix Phone support. CAN YOU TALK TO A LIVE WIX SUPPORT PERSON ANYMORE? YES, YOU CAN! HERE'S HOW: Wix Phone Support: 2024 update: Go to www.wix.com/contact and type, "Can I speak to a human?". It will then ask you for a topic and you'll see the live chat or callback options. A bit difficult to find but once you know, you can get real support. Don't fret! While it doesn't appear you can get ahold of anyone at Wix because you can't call them directlly, you CAN schedule a call-back from Wix using their online form. Hopefully Wix will continue their EXCELLENT phone support service going forward, I don't mind scheduling a call back, but this does seem to be buried and hard to find, which is why I wrote this post! If you are looking for Graphic Designer or Website Designer , contact me today for a free design estimate .

- Wix Designer Tip: Donation Forms on Wix
As a Wix Designer , I often add Donation Forms on Wix websites for my non-profit and organization clients. Oct 2024 Update: I just heard about a new donation tool for non-profits, zeffy.com which does not have any fees! I'm going to have to try this one out, but wanted to share it here. Donorbox.org is a great fundraising form builder that integrates seamlessly into Wix websites (and most other website platforms like Wordpress or Squarespace, for that matter.) See how it works below: Here's what a Donorbox Donation Form on a Wix Website looks like: It even has multiple page forms so it's easy for the user to digest and fill out without feeling overhwelmed with a long scrolling form. I also like that it allows for my clients to setup donation amounts, or custom amounts, as well as one-time, weekly, monthly recurring donations, which is great for non-profits fundraising abilities! They're pricing may change, but as of May 2023, here's their current pricing – there are no ongoing monthly fees for their Standard plan, so you only pay when a donation is made. Their fee structure on their Standard Plan is 1.75% Platform Fee plus the credit card transaction fees of 1.99% + 49¢ per transaction when a donation is made. Not free, but it's a pretty nice system that makes donations easy to collect on an ongoing basis on websites. And, if you are on their standard plan, you only pay when you get donations – which is nice as there are no ongoing monthly fees.

- Brochure Mockup Generator
As a graphic designer , I love sharing tools I find that help me with projects. Here's another great tool for creating mockups of brochures, books, t-shirts and more. I created a tri-fold brochure mockup below for one of my clients using this handy tool. There is a cost if you want to download the images ($7.95 for one, or $8.99/month for unlimited mockups), but it's super easy to use and they have a lot of mockup images to choose from. Check this tool out at: placeit.net In addition to brochure and website mockups, the placeit.net tool also creates other mockups such as t-shirts, billboards, books, brochures, and other items. Here's an example of a Website Mockup created with placeit.net : In the two images below, I used placeit.net to create mockups of t-shirts, see my logo and infographics mocked up below: You can even change t-shirt color: Another great mockup generator or creator for products like bags of soil is MediaModifier.com – here are some bag examples created on Media Modifier for our client who makes garden products such as compost and potting soil, Kristy K Organics: Media Modifier is also an easy to use tool, you can simply upload your finished artwork from Adobe InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop (flattened JPGs) and it will mockup the artwork on items like soil bags or other objects very quickly. There is a cost to download the images ($25 for a month-to-month fee) but the time it saves is worth it! Another mockup creator I discovered thanks to one of my clients is the Pebblely mockup creator for products – it uses AI to create product photos using your branding and artwork. Pretty neat. And you get 40 free ~ 1024x1024 sized photos to start to see how it works! - Nature's Best Hope Summary (Illustrated!)
One of my favorite books I've read is Nature's Best Hope by Douglas Tallamy. It is the most hopeful and inspiring book I've ever read, and it got me excited and interested in planting native plants, not just because they grow beautifully here with little added water or inputs, but also to help feed the bees and the birds and all wildlife. Before reading this book, I was an organic gardener, but I never thought of a caterpillar as baby bird food, I generally thought of them as pests as I was taught for most of my life. I didn't use pesticides as I figured they are bad for your health, and bad for the environment and wildlife, but I would occasionally simply collect and squish pests on my vegetable plants as I saw them. But, now I see a baby caterpillar on my cabbage, I now know that the birds raising their young would love to eat it. For example, did you know that Chick-a-dees feed their young 350-750 caterpillars A DAY? Incredible! Who knew that those soft little green buggers were the perfect baby bird food? Because of reading this book, now I see caterpillars, aphids and other pests as not only ok to see in your garden, but they are actually GOOD to see! Afterall, if you leave the pests to feed the pest control, they'll help you keep pests in check. If you poison the pests, then you poison your pest control too, so things only get worse. And I've always figured, having a little pest damage on your veggies only means that they are free of poison. Personally, I'd rather eat an aphid on a lettuce leaf than worry about ingesting cancer-causing pesticides and chemicals. And, it makes me happy that any insects I see in my garden are food for the birds! So all life belongs. While reading the book, I was so inspired that I took notes (with lots of doodles, of course) to capture some of the most amazing facts and information about native plants, pollinators and birds. From my notes and doodles from Nature's Best Hope , I am working on a visual summary, an infographic as they are sometimes called, to show a lot of the great info in the book in a visual way. Stay tuned! For all of those who don't read books (though this one is highly recommended, even my husband enjoyed it and he's not a huge book reader unless it's about a topic he's interested in), my Visual Summary of Nature's Best Hope will be a fast way to learn more about how we can all make a difference simply planting native plants in our landscapes, patio pots, schools, parkways, parks, churches, libraries... you name it! We can create the largest Homegrown National Park to patchwork together habitat for pollinators and wildlife as well as people - as we can enjoy nature in our own backyards. :) Here are some closeups of my visual Summary notes I took while reading Nature's Best Hope. I'm working on a more polished version of this visual summary, so stay tuned for shareable infographics and posters to come! Reach out to me if you have any questions or requests. See some of my other posters and environmental infographics » If you'd like to share any of these images, please reach out to me and ask for permission, I'm happy to have them shared! If you haven't read Nature's Best Hope by Douglas Tallamy, make sure to pick one up at your local library. It's the antidote to environmental despair, and will get you very excited to plant native plants to feed wildlife in your own neck of the woods. It also will get you excited to see every insect in your garden, as it opens your eyes to the wonderful world of urban wildlife around your home. Happy reading and planting!

- Website Accessibility Statement Examples
As a Website Designer, I come across helpful tools and resources that help make designing a website easier. So here's another one that I wanted to share: An ADA accessibility compliance statement for a website is a message to visitors that outlines a website's commitment to making its content accessible to everyone . It's often a single page that explains the website's policies, goals, and current methods for making its content and services accessible to people with disabilities. These disabilities include visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities. Below is a link to a free Accessibility Statement template example that I've used to customize for my client websites: https://accessible.org/accessibility-statement-template
- Photoshop - Color Match Multiple Images
How do I match a color from one image to another in Photoshop? Wondering how to match colors of two photos? It's easy with the Photoshop's Neural Filters! Watch the video to see how to match colors from one photo to another in Photoshop using their amazingly quick and easy "Color Transfer" Neural Filter that my expert Production Artist husband just helped me discover. This filter is located under Filters > Neural Filter Choose "Color Transfer" and then you can choose "Custom" in order to choose your own image to match. I tried it for the first time on this watercolor background image to match the turquoise coloring of another graphic, and it worked amazingly well! Saved me a ton of time, and, I think it did a better job than I could have done in matching the colors between the two images. Watch the video above to see it work! Below is the Custom Panel of the Color Transfer Neural Filter in Photoshop that can help you quickly match colors of two photos. Amazing. Below is my image that I used below that I wanted to transfer/match the coloring to my new watercolor background stock image to – bringing the color palette of two pictures closer to each other so I could use it on a website. Wow, it did an amazing job – and very quickly, I could not have done it as fast or as well as the Transfer Image Neural Filter did! The results are amazing! Photoshop quickly transformed my new image from pink to matching turquoise and gold colors to match my original image above. Happy designing! Check out all of these recently designed websites that look amazing across all platforms, are easy to edit, and they are easily found in search engines to help grow these businesses: Wix is a great platform for non-profits such as peopleandpollinators.org, shown aboe, who help bring deep knowledge of and experience with pollinator protection, community development, environmental policy, sustainable agriculture, and habitat management. Wix websites are also great for service companies such as this local Denver woodworker, above, as it allows for easy setup of a project portfolio/gallery that allows this small business to add more of their projects to their website over time to show off their amazing work. - Color Palette Picker
Looking for a simple color picking tool? As a Website Designer and Graphic Designer, I like to share great tools I come across. I just discovered this cool Color Palette Picker to help me find color palette ideas for logos or design. This palette generator is very easy and fast to use, just press your space bar to reload a new set of colors, or roll over the colors to remove or add colors, make adjustments, or pick favorites. I love using my space bar to quickly surf through color palettes to experiment with in my logo designs, graphic design and website design! Very inspirational! Check it out at: coolors.co There are lots more online tools, here's another easy to use color picker tool from Canva below that has an easy-to-use color wheel picker so you can play around with colors quickly. It also provides Complementary, Monochromatic, Analogous, Triadic, and Tetradic colors to go along with your chosen color. Nice. - Wix Designer Tip: Add Mobile Menu on Page with No Header
Note: If you want to add a mobile popup menu that is accessed by a "hamburger menu" icon for users to click on, check out this post: Wix: Add Mobile Menu As a Wix Website Designer, I often run into common issues with Wix – but, as I always say, there's almost always a good work-around to missing features. One common Wix designer problem is when we design homepages in Wix that do not use the header/footer layout, the mobile pages do not have a menu option – even if you have a menu on the desktop version of the page. I often design homepages without header/footers so that I can design a more beautiful full screened homepage and have control over where the menu is placed. Then, on the subpages I use the page layout that includes the header and footer with a more standardized menu template so that I can build subpages quickly and make header/footer menu edits universally without having to edit each subpage. The downside of using a homepage without the header/footer in Wix is that on mobile, there is no mobile menu option! You can add a mobile action bar, but I'm not a huge fan. I have also tried creating a lightbox with a fake menu made of buttons to solve this issue – using a PNG hamburger menu to open the lightbox upon clicking... HOWEVER, the Lightboxes seem to respond quite slow on mobile, so that's not the best solution. Note: If you don't want to add visible buttons, and you would rather add a mobile Lightbox popup menu that is accessed by a "hamburger menu" icon for users to click on, check out this post: Wix: Add Mobile Menu I hope that Wix adds an ability to add a mobile menu to pages without headers in the future, but until then, here's a mobile menu workaround: For Sandra Dallas' website shown below, I made a "footer menu" out of Buttons on the homepage that I could reuse as a "menu" on mobile, and I put 4 of the main menu buttons on top, and put the remaining three on the bottom. The subpages, which have a header/footer, use the regular mobile menu, which is much more responsive than a lightbox version. See my screenshots in this post to see how this was done, or check it out on the live website: www.sandradallas.com Fake Footer Menu on Desktop: The Desktop version uses transparent buttons for a footer menu, with simple line shapes as "dividers". One downside is that this menu is NOT dynamic, so if new pages or page names are changed, we would need to reorganize/change these buttons to reflect the changes. But, I think this is a beautiful and user-friendly solution. I actually like this solution better than using the mobile hamburger menu as it's super easy for users to click on the main pages rather than first having to jump through the extra hoop of clicking on the hamburger menu to expand the menu. Wix Mobile Hamburger Menu Option: Want to add a hamburger menu that expands when clicked and opens a custom mobile menu on Wix? Here's another way to add a Mobile Menu to Wix »

- Best Website Builder for Small Business • 2024
As an expert website designer who's worked on every platform there is – in 2023 and going into 2024 I most often recommend Wix over any other platform to my small business clients such as authors, artists, non-profit organizations, roofers, doctors, clinics, restaurants, colleges, as well as large businesses and corporations. Above is an example of an Wix Author Website for a New York Times Best Selling Author of True Crime, Harry MacLean. Here are just a few reasons I think that Wix is the best website builder for small businesses in 2023: Easy to Design Websites, and Easy for Clients to Edit After working in other design-restrictive website builder platforms such as Wordpress, Squarespace, Weebly, GoDaddy's Website Builder, Shopify, Drupal, Joomla, and others, I always felt constrained to templates and blocks. I couldn't simply move a hummingbird halfway over another image between a text block, for example. Everything was stuck in a grid. With Wix, you can put any element EXACTLY where you want it. I love it, it's like designing in Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator or Canva. As a Dreamweaver and Flash website designer who moved onto Wordpress, Drupal, Shopify and others, I didn't try Wix until 2015. It had been around for awhile before that, but it was Flash based, and, since I created my own interactive Flash elements on manually built HTML based sites, I never used it. However, after they launched their new HTML based editor, my husband told me his friend had built his band's website on Wix and liked it, so I thought I'd give it a go as I was moving away from Flash and Dreamweaver onto website builders that my clients could edit and would look good on phones and tablets. In Wix I first built a simple site from a Photoshop file design I had created – and honestly, it was so easy that I thought it was too good to be true. But it worked, and it worked well. Despite some limitations, in 2015 Wix blew every other platform out of the water. As they continued to improve their builder, they've stayed far ahead of all the competition. Wix also auto-sizes your images for various devices, so you don't have to optimize your images for your Wix websites, the website builder platform does the work for you! Wix also has an amazingly simple and easy-to-use Wix Photo Editor so myself or my clients can quickly clip out objects to have transparent backgrounds, run filters, adjust contrast, saturation, and other Photoshop-like editing on the fly. You can also easily crop images or set a focus area on background images so that the image appears perfectly across all platforms. It's amazing. I'm still waiting for Wordpress and other platforms to create a true drag-and-drop editor interface like what Wix has created, I'm sure other website platforms will over time, but none have gotten close. Yet. Every other editor is restricted to clunky templates and blocks - you can't truly drag-and-drop elements to an exact position on a page or a mobile page. That's where Wix shines. It's so easy to edit, my clients love it compared to other platforms. After a brief training that I include with every website design, they exclaim: "Wow, this is so much easier to edit than my Wordpress website!" or, "This is very intuitive, I think I can try making edits on my own." I love hearing that. I want to empower small businesses to keep their own websites updated over time so that they can succeed. Wix is a Secure, Maintenance-free Platform Unlike other open-source platforms such as Wordpress, you don't have to worry about security updates or plugin updates. Wix won't "break" if you forget to update the software. because you don't have to update the software! Wix is a hosted solution and their team of developers keep the platform updated and secure so you don't have to worry about it. Small businesses love this as they don't have time for updates, they just want a platform that is reliable and consistent. That is Wix. Sure, there are occassional downtimes, but they self-resolve due to Wix's excellent team of hardworking people who keep the platform going strong. Wix SEO is a SEO Hero I believe that Wix rocks SEO. When I started working in it in 2015, there were some SEO limitations, but boy has it come a long way since then. I find that my clients' Wix websites get to the top page of Google and other search engines for search topics they want to be found for – if optimized correctly. Google even says that Wix is good at SEO. If you optimize the pages and content well, and you add more relevant SEO content regularly, you can be at on the top page of Google for many search terms, there is no limit. It performs as well as any other platform (if not better,) in my opinion. I've matched it up to Wordpress and other platforms and it outperforms them in my experience. It's all about how you use it, and how you use it over time. Don't let websites get stagnant! Wix Websites look good on Mobile Wix has a great mobile editor that let's you rearrange, size, hide or add elements from your desktop in a vertical mobile view so that phone-viewing is ideal for viewers. Unlike the restrictive responsive templates of other platforms, Wix allows you to customize every detail on phones so you can streamline the mobile user-experience. I love it! If you want to make elements more prominent on your mobile website, or if you want to add a mobile-only element such as a button or image that works better in the mobile vertical environment, the Wix mobile editor makes it easy. Wix listens and improves all the time. Wix listens to all of us Wix Designer partners, I've spoken with Wix many times over the years to help guide them on how to improve the platform, and they actually listen. Sure, there is plenty of room for improvement, as with all platforms. And there are some features I'd love them to add, and they are on a feature wishlist. Wix is constantly adding and improving the platform and they respond to the feedback that website designers like me give them – which is awesome. Want to see how good Wix websites can look? - Image Maps on Wix - Use Invisible Buttons
As a Wix Designer I like to share lots of tips to help people better use Wix. Here's a simple way to link certain areas on an image to any page, website URL, document, or phone number of your choice. Use invisible buttons. Watch the video to learn how: Add any button Change button's background transparency to 0% on both states including the hover state. (These settings are found under the Paintbrush icon when you click on the button) Double click on the button (or link icon) to pull up the Button Settings panel. Choose "Nothing" from the dropdown under "Choose what displays." This allows you to still use an Accessible name which is great, and works like an invisible button over any image or spot on the page. Size and move the button to the area on the image that you want to link. Doublecheck the mobile view to make sure the button is where it's supposed to be in mobile as well. Voila, that's it! This is a great alternative than having to use code for an image map. Image Maps on Wix Technically you could add an Image Map to any Wix page, you would add the HTML embed code element on the page, and create an image map code to accomplish this (there are tools like image-map.net that can help you write the code. But when I quickly tested it I could not get the image map links to work in the code, they were not linking though tall the code was there – perhaps I had something wrong in the code. But regardless, using invisible buttons on Wix websites to create clickable areas on an image is the fastest and easiest way to accomplish this goal. Happy Wixing! To Remove Gaps in Wix: Make sure you have your Tools open (open them in the upper right of the Wix editor), and then find the W (width) and H (height) fields that you can type a number into to change the height of super tall strips, sections, images, etc. This also helps you adjust the page height in Wix as you can shorten sections, strips, or images easily using the Tool Height field to allow for the page height handle to be dragged up.
