This Wix website uses a Wix Ecwid online store for their needs for custom farmer's market pickup options, which are much more customizable for shipping and pickup options than the standard Wix Stores platform. This allows them to take online orders for CSA pickups as well as for shippable mushroom products like their delicious dried mushrooms. We also optimized their website for SEO to help them get found for Wisconsin Mushrooms: Wix works great for architects , as it can feature full width beautiful images that fill the screen and have slideshows, project pages, blogs, and so much more: Another one of our Best Wix Websites was for an architecture firm Blanco Architecture, who are Building Envelope Consultants: We love working on farm websites ! Another one of the best Wix websites coming soon will be a redesign for Dreamland Flower Farm in Connecticut. We are working with Merrie, the famous Dahlia farmer, to help redesign her existing Wix website to be more engaging and help her customers get to her Dahlia tubers and learn more about growing Dahlias. Wix is great for restaurants as it's super easy to update with new menus, happy hour specials, integrate widgets for Open Table, Rezy, and others. Here's a new website we designed in 2025 for Bounty Hunter Wine Bar & Smoking BBQ in Napa, California. The website is mobile friendly and is easy for their customers to find their menu, or book a reservation online. We also designed their food menu and wine menu: Another project I'm super excited about that we'll be launching in 2025 is a new website for the Audubon Society for their Nevada chapter. We're just launched a new Author website design for Harry N. Maclean, a true crime author who is releasing his new book, Starkweather, on November 28, 2023. His earlier website was not mobile-friendly, as it was built over 10 years ago – so a redesign was timely to coordinate with the release of his latest true crime book, Starkweather. One of our favorite best-looking Wix websites that we've worked on is one for a Maryland Native Plants Blog that is all about what native plants to use in landscapes in the Chesapeake Bay region. This is a fun, positive blog that givers users easy ways to support wildlife in their own yards, as well as choose plants that will thrive in their climate and soil. We are working with Wix to import over her Wordpress blog into Wix so that she can take advantage of all the wonderful design options in Wix and no longer be stuck with a Wordpress template that is hard to change. Here is the finalized updated website with all the client's feedback. We ended up simplifying some of the Wix templates to remove some of the illustrations, to help make the blog post images shine. It is a top notch site, and a great native plant resource for the east coast. We're also super excited about designing the new site for a Garden Fling tour that is held in a different city each year. We redesigned this website that was formerly a Blogger website, and have imported over all the posts from the past 12 years and reorganizing the content to make it easier for sponsors and participants to find the information they need and to learn more about the Fling. We also love working with artists too to develop portfolios to show off their work. Wix has amazing galleries for showcasing artworks, and the blog is great for posting updates. Below is a Wix website designed for a Biodegradable Plastics Company , Maverick Enterprises. They had an old text-heavy website before that didn't show off the amazing biodegradable plastic packaging they are working on. So, we redesigned their website to have an infographic-based website design, illustrating how their compostable plastics differ from a lot of compostable plastics out there. Did you know that most of the plastic "compostable" cups, utensils and packaging you are seeing at environmentally-conscious shops/restaurants/events actually don't break down in home composts or in landfills? They have to be composted in commercial facilities. Maverick Enterprises's "Green Film" actually will break down in your home compost or even in landfills, so it doesn't end up sticking around for eternity. As a Wix Designer, I work on a lot of client websites in Wix, a great platform. However, there's always room for improvement, so here is my active wish list: Wix Feature Requests from an expert Wix Designer WIX WISH LIST As a Wix Web Designer, and I think that Wix is a great platform for small business websites. However, it does have, like all platforms, room for improvement! Below is my wish list for the top features I think Wix needs. The nice thing is, the Wix Wizards release new features all the time, so I'm hoping that since most of these needs are on their active Feature Requests are coming soon! I will update this page as I discover more needs and when the Wix Wizards release new updates that solve some of these missing features. WIX FEATURE REQUEST #1: Wix Stores – Ecommerce Functionality: Better Receipt Page Currently, the Wix shopping cart's "Thank You" receipt page doesn't have the items that the user ordered. It has an Order Number, and a Total Cost and Billing Address, but it doesn't list what the customer actually ordered. Why is this an issue? Because if the customer doesn't get the email confirmation of their order, they will not have a "receipt" of what they ordered. As an online shopper, I always print (or save a PDF) of all my online orders' receipt pages JUST IN CASE I don't get the email receipt, I have a record of what I ordered. Currently with Wix, the receipt page is very rudamentary, and could really use the full order details so a customer can print if desired. Vote for this feature here » WIX FEATURE REQUEST #2: Completed! February 2017 SSL For Wix Websites The Wix Wizards have added HTTPs to all Wix websites – the highest security standard certificate. This ensures all information and communication on your website is encrypted, authenticated and secured. This also helps with SEO: Google and other search engines now favor websites with SSL encryption, so this will help boost website search rankings. YES! WIX FEATURE REQUEST #3 – COMPLETED! Smart URLs for Wix Webpages While Wix used to use long and ugly page URLs, we now have the ability to name any page with the specific URL we want, for example: www.picklewix.com/page-name Thanks, Wix Wizards! WIX FEATURE REQUEST #4 Full Width Video (YouTube/Vimeo) Currently it's not possible to use a YouTube or Vimeo video at 100% width of the screen. While they do allow for full-width video backgrounds, these are autoplay and do not have audio. It would be great if we could use the "stretch" tool to make videos full screen. Wix Wizards, work your magic! WIX FEATURE REQUEST #5 Blog with Import & Commenting Functionality Currently it is not possible to import posts from another blog into the Wix blog (such as Wordpress), so if I have clients that have an existing blog, this means they (or I) would need to manually repost all the blog posts. If the original blog has years' worth of posts, this could take a long time! Vote for this feature here » Secondly, the Wix blog needs to have it's own built-in Commenting functionality. Currently you can only utilize comments through Facebook, Disqus or a Comments app, but none are built-in and therefore not fully controllable from the Wix blog. Whenever dropdown menus exist, a common complaint is that people often do not click on the main link in the menu if there is a dropdown (so if the "About" page has three subpages, people ususally click on the subpages rather than the "About" in the menu, so they never see the main About page). Wix has added a "Menu Dropdown" under the Add > in the Page editor panel, see the screenshot for reference. A "Menu Dropdown" is a non-clickable, top-level menu item. This feature can be used to group subpages together under a menu item that does not have a page of its own (that way, you don't miss users clicking on only the subpages in the dropdown menu). To add a menu dropdown: From the left side of the Editor, click the Pages icon > at the bottom of the Pages window, click Add > click Menu DropDown.

Instagram on Wix - some tips from a Wix Website Designer Wix Web Designer Tips Instagram on Wix Want to embed an Instagram feed on your site? There are lots of different ways to do this, but here are my two suggestions I find the easiest. Wix Instagram App: Wix has an Instagram feed app that's free and simple to add to your page ( Go to the Add + tool in your Wix editor, and find Social, and then scroll down to see the Instagram app. Or, search the App Market for "Instagram Feed" and simply add it to your site. The one limitation to this feed is that you have to connect it to your Instagram account, so if you don't have login access to the account you want to embed, it won't work. This app does have nice features to be able to select differnet header items (like a Follow button). Here's a trick to get around the problem of Wix re-naming your PDF files with long random filenames. Wix Web Designer Tips Retaining Filenames of PDFs in Wix As a Wix website designer, I often get questions from clients on how to perform certain tasks in Wix. While Wix has a great forum that is filled with answers, it's sometimes hard to find the most commonly answered questions with one clear, concise answer. These pages are dedicated to explaining some of the most common Wix questions that clients ask me. There are a few ways to allow for PDF or image files to be downloaded from your Wix website by website viewers. Watch this Wix Tutorial video for more info: With PDFs, the PDFs will download with your correct filename now in Wix. However, you cannot customize the document URL of the file, and it will have an encoded URL such as: https://www.picklewix.com/_files/ugd/139de8_da1059b6d4c1425284d21e3b0eaa9083.pdf Once the user downloads the file, however, it will have the PDF filename you gave it. This also applies to Word files (.doc or .docx) and Excel files (.xls or .xlsx). I actually like this better than linking directly to a PDF in Wix anyway, because it opens up immediately (in most Browsers, most PDF links make the user jump through a hoop by allowing the browser to "trust" the download, but with the Google links, it opens immediately with no popups or hoops to jump through. Note: There is also a Google Drive App in the Wix app market that also allows you to sync up your Google Drive documents to your website, so check that out as well as an option. Good Search Engine Optimization (SEO) features Wix allows complete customization for optimal Search Engine Optimization. You can setup alt tags, meta keywords, meta descriptions, and custom page titles so that you can optimize your webpages to help Google and other search engines index and rank your website. Since Wix handles the shopping cart/store by way of "Collection", this means your products in your store have to be part of a collection. Then, on the store page, you can add a "Product Gallery" to your site so you can display products in a Collection. Click on "Wix Tips" in the menu to expand sub-menu to see all the topics we've covered. This "Product Gallery" box can be adjusted easily via the "Settings". To do this: 1. Click on the Product Gallery box. 2. Click on "Settings" in the options panel that pops up. 3. In the Product Gallery settings window, you'll find different layout options, along with the ability to increase or decrease the rows and columns in the Product Gallery. Note: you may want to increase the height of your Product Gallery using the Stretch Handles to enlarge or decrease the size of the box. If you only have 2 items in a "Collection" and you add more rows/columns, it still will only show those 2 items, though it may "squish" them smaller if the "Collection" box isn't enlarged to accomodate any added rows. Using Wix's email subscription tools is a great way to collect your customer's emails for future contact. Wix Web Designer Tips Wix Email Subscription Tools A great tool that Wix offers is their Subscribe Form tool. This tool allows you to add a email subscribe form quickly and easily to your Wix website. This is a great way to collect your website users' emails so that you can contact them down the road. A good example of this is on my client's Denver Farmer's Market website, she is starting the market this summer, but doesn't have all the details on the times in place yet. So, we added a subscribe form so that her interested customers can "subscribe" to be notified with market details and reminders. So far, she's had several new subscribers everyday, so she's building a good email list so she can send out Market announcments and details once they are finalized. Click on "Wix Tips" in the menu to expand sub-menu to see all the topics we've covered. See the screenshots below on the how easy it is to add a simple subscribe form to a Wix website, the tool is located under "Apps > Subscribe Form". These forms collect and store your contacts in the Wix account for future emailing. You can use Wix's simple but easy to use ShoutOut software for sending out email newsletters, or you can also export your contacts to a third-party email newsletter service like MailChimp or VerticalResponse. Wix's ShoutOut newsletter tool is nice, but it does have a few limitations: you have to start the email with a text title, you can't have the image at the top Wix's ShoutOut doesn't give much control over the design, you have to either put in text blocks or image blocks in a vertical layout. On the plus side, this format works great for mobile. However, for quick newsletters, Wix's ShoutOut a great system to get started with, and they do have a lot of fun templates to start off with which lend a more designed look to the newsletters. You could use tools like Keywords Everywhere or Google Keyword Tool to find good keywords to focus on, and also use tools like frase.io to help you write good content that is going to be found. Whether it is new content in the form of a blog post or page, or, if you're adding or rewriting content to make it better on existing pages or blogs, keeping your Wix website current is crucial for SEO. For example, if you design a lot of restaurant websites, it would be great to write good content focusing on specific keyword phrases such as "Restaurant Website Design Company " or "Restaurant Website Design Templates", or "Best Restaurant Website", etc. Be informative and long-winded! Your content should be informative and in-depth. Writing pages or blog posts with 750+ words is helpful as it helps your website shine over the competition. Make sure to include great information that is useful to your readers, if you build it, they will come! Be patient, as new content can take several months to a year to rank well – so just keep at it and keep writing! Make sure to link to your new content from other pages and create backlinks from other websites if possible to help speed up the process.
