As a Wix Designer, I work on a lot of client websites in Wix, a great platform. However, there's always room for improvement, so here is my active wish list: Wix Feature Requests from an expert Wix Designer WIX WISH LIST As a Wix Web Designer, and I think that Wix is a great platform for small business websites. However, it does have, like all platforms, room for improvement! Below is my wish list for the top features I think Wix needs. The nice thing is, the Wix Wizards release new features all the time, so I'm hoping that since most of these needs are on their active Feature Requests are coming soon! It has an Order Number, and a Total Cost and Billing Address, but it doesn't list what the customer actually ordered. Why is this an issue? Because if the customer doesn't get the email confirmation of their order, they will not have a "receipt" of what they ordered. As an online shopper, I always print (or save a PDF) of all my online orders' receipt pages JUST IN CASE I don't get the email receipt, I have a record of what I ordered. Currently with Wix, the receipt page is very rudamentary, and could really use the full order details so a customer can print if desired. Vote for this feature here » WIX FEATURE REQUEST #2: Completed! February 2017 SSL For Wix Websites The Wix Wizards have added HTTPs to all Wix websites – the highest security standard certificate. This ensures all information and communication on your website is encrypted, authenticated and secured. This also helps with SEO: Google and other search engines now favor websites with SSL encryption, so this will help boost website search rankings. YES! WIX FEATURE REQUEST #3 – COMPLETED! Smart URLs for Wix Webpages While Wix used to use long and ugly page URLs, we now have the ability to name any page with the specific URL we want, for example: www.picklewix.com/page-name Thanks, Wix Wizards! WIX FEATURE REQUEST #4 Full Width Video (YouTube/Vimeo) Currently it's not possible to use a YouTube or Vimeo video at 100% width of the screen. There are lots of different ways to do this, but here are my two suggestions I find the easiest. Wix Instagram App: Wix has an Instagram feed app that's free and simple to add to your page ( Go to the Add + tool in your Wix editor, and find Social, and then scroll down to see the Instagram app. Or, search the App Market for "Instagram Feed" and simply add it to your site. The one limitation to this feed is that you have to connect it to your Instagram account, so if you don't have login access to the account you want to embed, it won't work. This app does have nice features to be able to select differnet header items (like a Follow button). Wix thankfully has added a new feature that allow you to disable the main link in your dropdown menu. Whenever dropdown menus exist, a common complaint is that people often do not click on the main link in the menu if there is a dropdown (so if the "About" page has three subpages, people ususally click on the subpages rather than the "About" in the menu, so they never see the main About page). Wix has added a "Menu Dropdown" under the Add > in the Page editor panel, see the screenshot for reference. A "Menu Dropdown" is a non-clickable, top-level menu item. This feature can be used to group subpages together under a menu item that does not have a page of its own (that way, you don't miss users clicking on only the subpages in the dropdown menu). To add a menu dropdown: From the left side of the Editor, click the Pages icon > at the bottom of the Pages window, click Add > click Menu DropDown.

Here's a trick to get around the problem of Wix re-naming your PDF files with long random filenames. Wix Web Designer Tips Retaining Filenames of PDFs in Wix As a Wix website designer, I often get questions from clients on how to perform certain tasks in Wix. While Wix has a great forum that is filled with answers, it's sometimes hard to find the most commonly answered questions with one clear, concise answer. These pages are dedicated to explaining some of the most common Wix questions that clients ask me. There are a few ways to allow for PDF or image files to be downloaded from your Wix website by website viewers. Watch this Wix Tutorial video for more info: With PDFs, the PDFs will download with your correct filename now in Wix. However, you cannot customize the document URL of the file, and it will have an encoded URL such as: https://www.picklewix.com/_files/ugd/139de8_da1059b6d4c1425284d21e3b0eaa9083.pdf Once the user downloads the file, however, it will have the PDF filename you gave it. This also applies to Word files (.doc or .docx) and Excel files (.xls or .xlsx). Customizing Document URLS: This is still not available on Wix, however, there is a feature request for this ability, which I agree is needed, you can vote for it here: support.wix.com/en/article/wix-editor-request-customizing-document-urls Download Images from Wix Websites: Image files download from Wix websites as .webp files with encoded filenames. If you want to link to an image they are going to have a filename like: 139de8_0979edafbaec4ece9d963d0a7409c05b~mv2.webp To get around this issue with image downloads, you can use a Wix Pro Gallery that will allow you to change the settings to allow for downloads that WILL retain the filename for the end user. Learn how: How do I download all media from Wix » Use Google Drive - Cloud Storage for file downloads in Wix: You could also use Google Drive if you run out of space on Wix, or if you want the ability to replace the file over time (which is not possible currently in Wix). Google provides Drive as a free cloud service where you can upload up to 15GB of files that you can then use their "share" link to link the image, pdf or other file if desired. This would not be at your domain name as it will be on Google's domain. What is nice about Google Drive is that it opens PDFs directly in the browser window, showing it the viewer immediately, and it gives them options to save, print etc. When they Download (save) the PDF file, it will retain the filename you originally used when uploading to Google Drive, so it's easy for your users to identify. Learn more at: www.google.com/drive/ See the screenshots provided here to see what a PDF link looks like in the Google Drive, as well as the second screenshot that shows where you can get the link to use in the Wix editor to add to a button or text link. First, upload your PDF or document, then once it's uploaded, while logged in, view the document, and you'll see a person with a plus symbol icon, that's the "Share" icon. Click on "Share" to popup a window where you can retrieve the link. Make sure to choose "Anyone with the link can view" so that it is a public link, then copy the link provided (click on "Get shareable link" if it's not showing immediately). I actually like this better than linking directly to a PDF in Wix anyway, because it opens up immediately (in most Browsers, most PDF links make the user jump through a hoop by allowing the browser to "trust" the download, but with the Google links, it opens immediately with no popups or hoops to jump through. Note: There is also a Google Drive App in the Wix app market that also allows you to sync up your Google Drive documents to your website, so check that out as well as an option. Often, a client comes to me where they've picked a Wix template, but they're not really liking it much once they start to put their own content and photos into the template. Often times, Wix templates rely heavily on beautiful stock photos as the centerpeice, so as soon as a real photo is inserted, the whole look and feel changes. I can help you customize any Wix template with your business colors and photos, or even help choose stock photos that fit your business that will work well in the template. Keep in mind, that while Wix has templates, they are not set in stone. It is very easy to change the backgrounds, fonts, colors, slideshows and entire layout of any page at any time. Wix Designer Review of Parallax Effect Wix has lots of scrolling effects including parallax, where the background moves at a different speed to the foreground elements, creating depth and simple movement. Make sure to limit the use of this and use it wisely, as it can be hard to view images this way. Scroll down this page to see how it works. To set your background image to parallax scrolling: Click Background on the top left side of the Editor (top Box icon) Click Settings on the background image preview. Click the toggle next to Parallax to enable or disable parallax scrolling: • Parallax is disabled. • Enabled: Parallax is enabled. Select an option: • Image is fixed: The background image has a fixed position so it will not move when scrolling. • Image scrolls with site: will scroll as user scrolls down or up. It also works best on longer scrolling pages to get the full effect. Scroll down to see Parallax effect: The Wix parallax background moves at a slower speed, give the page depth. Parallax scrolling is a technique in web design where background images move slower than foreground images, creating an illusion of depth in a 2D scene and adding to the immersion. Selecting the right photo for the Parallax effect is important, not all photos will work well with this effect, so I typically test out several images and modify them to get one that works best with a layout. That means you can upload videos straight to your website – previously you could only add video backgrounds or embed YouTube and Vimeo videos so this is a game changer! Of course, to be a SEO Hero, it's good to keep posting on YouTube and Vimeo, but if you want to control the quality of the videos or store your videos on your website as well, you can now do this! The Wix Video tool also lets you quickly add videos from other online platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo . This Wix Video tool will allow you to control the quality of the video, organize your videos in your own website channels, and even charge for videos (uses Paypal for payments)!
