This tool allows users to go back in time to any version of their site that was published. So, if you make some edits to the website, and publish it, and then realize that your edits were wrong, or you messed something up on the site, you can easily go into the Site History tool and go back to any published version. The Site History tool is located in the main Wix login page after you login to Wix (not in the actual editor, but the login page where you click to get to the editor). So with Wix, you don't have to worry about breaking or messing up your site, as you can always go back in time and "undo" any mistakes. This gives Wix website clients peace of mind, especially if they are having multiple people edit their site, they don't have to worry about loosing anything. Wix Web Designer Tips Expanding the page size in Wix I just had a client ask me how to add more text to her page. This is a common question, with a simple answer, so I wanted to post a tip about it with a screenshot to show you just how to expand a page size in Wix, or simply enlarge a text box. 1. Click on text box 2. Click and hold on the bottom icon that has a downward arrow, then while holding down, drag the box downward to enlarge the page. You can then enter more text into this text box. In Wix, you can also copy and paste text boxes if you want to have more flexibility in moving them around on the page. Bonus Tip: If you drag an element downward on the page, it will also expand the page (make sure not to "add" it to the footer, unless the element is desired on every page. Tips for how to edit your Mobile layout in Wix from a Denver Website Designer. Wix Designer Tips Wix Mobile Layout Editing Tips As a Denver website designer, I find that Wix is one of the best platforms for easily-customizable mobile layouts. Wix, rather than having a "responsive" layout, allows you full control over the mobile layout. This means you can reorder and/or turn off different desktop design elements to optimize the mobile viewing experience. You can even choose to turn off the "mobile" view and instead show the desktop, which works well with some layouts. To view and edit the mobile layout, click on the "Mobile" icon in the upper right of your Wix Editor: TIPS: In the mobile editor, you can pan through all the elements on a page by using this key-command: Mac: Commmand M to pan through elements. PC: Control M This is extremely helpful if you have a lot of elements on the page and can't find them all if they are hidden behind other elements. Hiding Objects in the Mobile Editor: You can hide or unhide items in the mobile editor by clicking on the "crossed out eye" icon when you click on any item in the mobile editor. You can also view hidden mobile items by clicking on this same eye icon in the left editor menu. Missing Objects in Mobile Editor? Occassionally, I have had trouble with elements disappearing from my Mobile editor in Wix, even though they don't show up as hidden items, and are nowhere to be found if I use the "Command M" to pan through each item in mobile. It's weird. So, a solution I've found is to: • go to the desktop editor • then copy and delete the missing mobile item from the page • Paste item back on page • then go back into the mobile editor, the item will reappear Sometimes that helps me re-find "lost" elements, they will reappear in the mobile editor if I copy, delete and paste them back in the Desktop editor. It's likely a Wix glitch, but this trick will hopefully solve your issue if you are missing a mobile element in the mobile editor.

However, there's always room for improvement, so here is my active wish list: Wix Feature Requests from an expert Wix Designer WIX WISH LIST As a Wix Web Designer, and I think that Wix is a great platform for small business websites. However, it does have, like all platforms, room for improvement! Below is my wish list for the top features I think Wix needs. Because if the customer doesn't get the email confirmation of their order, they will not have a "receipt" of what they ordered. As an online shopper, I always print (or save a PDF) of all my online orders' receipt pages JUST IN CASE I don't get the email receipt, I have a record of what I ordered. Currently with Wix, the receipt page is very rudamentary, and could really use the full order details so a customer can print if desired. This ensures all information and communication on your website is encrypted, authenticated and secured. This also helps with SEO: Google and other search engines now favor websites with SSL encryption, so this will help boost website search rankings. YES! WIX FEATURE REQUEST #3 – COMPLETED! Smart URLs for Wix Webpages While Wix used to use long and ugly page URLs, we now have the ability to name any page with the specific URL we want, for example: www.picklewix.com/page-name Thanks, Wix Wizards! WIX FEATURE REQUEST #4 Full Width Video (YouTube/Vimeo) Currently it's not possible to use a YouTube or Vimeo video at 100% width of the screen. Wix Instagram App: Wix has an Instagram feed app that's free and simple to add to your page ( Go to the Add + tool in your Wix editor, and find Social, and then scroll down to see the Instagram app. Or, search the App Market for "Instagram Feed" and simply add it to your site. The one limitation to this feed is that you have to connect it to your Instagram account, so if you don't have login access to the account you want to embed, it won't work. This app does have nice features to be able to select differnet header items (like a Follow button). Wix thankfully has added a new feature that allow you to disable the main link in your dropdown menu. Whenever dropdown menus exist, a common complaint is that people often do not click on the main link in the menu if there is a dropdown (so if the "About" page has three subpages, people ususally click on the subpages rather than the "About" in the menu, so they never see the main About page). Wix has added a "Menu Dropdown" under the Add > in the Page editor panel, see the screenshot for reference. A "Menu Dropdown" is a non-clickable, top-level menu item. This feature can be used to group subpages together under a menu item that does not have a page of its own (that way, you don't miss users clicking on only the subpages in the dropdown menu). To add a menu dropdown: From the left side of the Editor, click the Pages icon > at the bottom of the Pages window, click Add > click Menu DropDown.

Here's a trick to get around the problem of Wix re-naming your PDF files with long random filenames. Wix Web Designer Tips Retaining Filenames of PDFs in Wix As a Wix website designer, I often get questions from clients on how to perform certain tasks in Wix. While Wix has a great forum that is filled with answers, it's sometimes hard to find the most commonly answered questions with one clear, concise answer. These pages are dedicated to explaining some of the most common Wix questions that clients ask me. There are a few ways to allow for PDF or image files to be downloaded from your Wix website by website viewers. Watch this Wix Tutorial video for more info: With PDFs, the PDFs will download with your correct filename now in Wix. However, you cannot customize the document URL of the file, and it will have an encoded URL such as: https://www.picklewix.com/_files/ugd/139de8_da1059b6d4c1425284d21e3b0eaa9083.pdf Once the user downloads the file, however, it will have the PDF filename you gave it. This also applies to Word files (.doc or .docx) and Excel files (.xls or .xlsx). Customizing Document URLS: This is still not available on Wix, however, there is a feature request for this ability, which I agree is needed, you can vote for it here: support.wix.com/en/article/wix-editor-request-customizing-document-urls Download Images from Wix Websites: Image files download from Wix websites as .webp files with encoded filenames. If you want to link to an image they are going to have a filename like: 139de8_0979edafbaec4ece9d963d0a7409c05b~mv2.webp To get around this issue with image downloads, you can use a Wix Pro Gallery that will allow you to change the settings to allow for downloads that WILL retain the filename for the end user. Learn how: How do I download all media from Wix » Use Google Drive - Cloud Storage for file downloads in Wix: You could also use Google Drive if you run out of space on Wix, or if you want the ability to replace the file over time (which is not possible currently in Wix). Google provides Drive as a free cloud service where you can upload up to 15GB of files that you can then use their "share" link to link the image, pdf or other file if desired. This would not be at your domain name as it will be on Google's domain. What is nice about Google Drive is that it opens PDFs directly in the browser window, showing it the viewer immediately, and it gives them options to save, print etc. When they Download (save) the PDF file, it will retain the filename you originally used when uploading to Google Drive, so it's easy for your users to identify. First, upload your PDF or document, then once it's uploaded, while logged in, view the document, and you'll see a person with a plus symbol icon, that's the "Share" icon. Click on "Share" to popup a window where you can retrieve the link. Make sure to choose "Anyone with the link can view" so that it is a public link, then copy the link provided (click on "Get shareable link" if it's not showing immediately). I actually like this better than linking directly to a PDF in Wix anyway, because it opens up immediately (in most Browsers, most PDF links make the user jump through a hoop by allowing the browser to "trust" the download, but with the Google links, it opens immediately with no popups or hoops to jump through. Note: There is also a Google Drive App in the Wix app market that also allows you to sync up your Google Drive documents to your website, so check that out as well as an option. Wix Designer Review of Parallax Effect Wix has lots of scrolling effects including parallax, where the background moves at a different speed to the foreground elements, creating depth and simple movement. Make sure to limit the use of this and use it wisely, as it can be hard to view images this way. Scroll down this page to see how it works. To set your background image to parallax scrolling: Click Background on the top left side of the Editor (top Box icon) Click Settings on the background image preview. Click the toggle next to Parallax to enable or disable parallax scrolling: • Parallax is disabled. • Enabled: Parallax is enabled. Select an option: • Image is fixed: The background image has a fixed position so it will not move when scrolling. • Image scrolls with site: will scroll as user scrolls down or up. Parallax scrolling is a technique in web design where background images move slower than foreground images, creating an illusion of depth in a 2D scene and adding to the immersion.
