Fixing AI Generated Logos

Lately, several new clients have asked me to fix or polish AI-generated logos so they can use them professionally.

In several cases, potential clients used AI to create a logo based on their ideas, but quickly realized that the AI-generated logo concepts didn’t fully match their vision or wasn’t production-ready due to low resolution. That’s when they reached out for help.

Sure, AI can generate something that looks like a logo. But looking like a logo and functioning as one are two very different things.

A real logo needs to do more than just look good on a screen, it has to perform everywhere you use it. That means scaling cleanly to any size without losing resolution, reproducing consistently across everything from business cards to billboards, and being properly prepared for print, web, embroidery, and signage. A small AI generated JPG or PNG file cannot do that. That’s why professional logos are built by designers as vector files. Vector design allows your logo to scale infinitely without degradation, adapt to different formats, and to have it's colors adjusted or have reversed versions to be used over any background while maintaining clarity and integrity. There’s also a bigger risk that often goes unnoticed: AI-generated designs are influenced by existing work. That means you could end up with something unintentionally similar to another brand’s identity without even realizing it. No one wants a copied logo. A truly custom logo ensures your brand stands apart, rather than feeling like a variation of something that already exists.

Above is an example of a logo design concept board. A full logo design can involve many custom illustrations may be created, as well as typeface choices, and color themes. Each custom logo is developed together with the client's feedback, and can take many iterations to get it exactly right.

A good logo is a visual shorthand for your brand. It captures the attention of your target audience, sets the tone for your company, and differentiates you from competitors. Using AI to whip something up that you are not sure is even unique and isn't actually customized to your exact brand is just not the way to go for a professional logo. AI logo generators rely on averages of existing designs, resulting in generic, surface-level aesthetics rather than strategic branding. To differentiate your business, an original visual metaphor and a human-led strategy is best. It may take many rounds of detailed revisions and finessing to get your logo just right, and it's nearly impossible to get AI to generate exactly what you are looking for.

AI is a powerful starting point. But you still need someone who understands how to turn that starting point into a usable logo that is uniquely yours.
