As a Wix Web Designer, I like to share solutions to common problems that I encounter. Here's a doozy that we just figured out regarding Wix and Cloudflare:
This week (Feb 25, 2019), upon the release of Wix Turbo, I had a client who's Wix website started getting a "Too Many Redirects" error. Their website hosting is with Wix, but the Yahoo registered domain had it's Domain Name Servers being pointed through Cloudflare by their IT department. Their IT department uses Cloudflare to provide content delivery network services, DDoS mitigation, Internet security and distributed domain name server services. Cloudflare's services sit between the visitor and the Cloudflare user's hosting provider, acting as a reverse proxy for websites. In the Cloudflare DNS settings is where the Wix pointing A record and CNAME record are setup, as well as their Microsoft 365 email MX servers.
But, this week, Wix websites going through Cloudflare for DNS support were suddenly were experiencing errors – and their webpage was showing an "Too many redirects" error instead of the website.
After a few days of troubleshooting, we realized that this may have to do with the new Feb. 25, 2019 Wix release of "Wix Turbo" which helps with Wix website speeds. But, we found that Cloudflare’s caching system is somehow confliciting with the new Wix Turbo caching, and was then causing a "Too Many Redirects" error, essentially "breaking" Wix websites. The IT department also said they had a few other Wix websites that encountered the same problem this week.
SOLUTION – TURN OFF CLOUDFLARE CACHING:
We turned off the Cloudflare caching, and the Wix website is now working once again. Whew. I’m glad to get to the bottom of it.
I wanted to share this on my blog in case any other Wix websites out there encounter this same problem. I only have one website client using Cloudflare, so it wasn't too big a deal, but I assume other Wix Website Designers may be using it so I wanted to share!
